Look Who's Turning 60!!
Believe it or not, it's not me - yet! LSS turns 60 years old next year! We are looking for a team to help plan our celebrations. Please contact me if you;re interested, All are welcome!
It was so wonderful to see so many of our families at our Science Fair/Book Fair/ Ice Cream Social. The student work is more impressive each year. We are grateful to our wonderful PTO for sponsoring this event and to all of you who came and enjoyed ice cream. Thanks to you, all LSS students chose a summer book, which they will receive just before summer vacation.
Donuts for Dudes was a huge success this year, but we haven't forgotten the wonderful women in our lives!! Moms, Aunts, Grandmas, Special Ladies, please join us for Goodies for Gals on Thursday, May 9th at 7:30 am!
Sincerely,

The Nurse's Corner
It looks like Spring is finally arriving… This is an exciting time! With the nice weather, our children are more active and playing outdoors every day. Sport practices have already started and bicycles, footballs and basketballs are out of the garage once again. In order to keep our kids safe and hydrated throughout the season, please, remember to encourage them to drink plenty of water and take a water bottle with them. Also, if they are going to be playing in direct contact with grass or in the woods, please apply insect repellent to protect them from Lyme Disease.
Our state has one of the highest rates of Lyme Disease in the region. As stated by the CDC (2018), “although anyone can get Lyme disease, children spend a lot of time outdoors and are at particular risk”. This disease is transmitted by ticks that are infected with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi.
Children that have been exposed to infected ticks, sometimes experience joint pain and swelling, skin rash, fever, chills, fatigue, or muscle pain. Please, contact the pediatrician promptly if you observe these symptoms or suspect your child has Lyme disease. I strongly recommend you and your family to read the CDC’s Lyme Disease brochure (link below) where information about prevention, diagnosis, and treatment can be found.
Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. You can reach me at 860-870-6088 during school hours.
