Principal's Message
Week of June 1, 2020
From the Desk of Mr. Holmes
Greetings Longden families,
We are so excited that we are going to see our Tigers this week! Thank you to each and every parent/ guardian for all of your support to our teachers and your children during our distance learning program amid these uncertain times. It is in these challenging times that our children need to know they can turn to the helpers in their lives (their parents, friends, and teachers). Our teachers will be in the drive-thrus this week, ready to show their students how much they love and miss them.
Some students will be returning items that may include textbooks, library books and/or Chromebooks. Others will simply be picking up their items that were left in the classroom when we departed on March 13th. Either way, please make sure to print out and complete the sign below. If you are returning items, please print out 2 copies. Please please place 1 copy in your windshield and 1 in your child's return bag (if appropriate).
Please place all items designated for return in a bag or bags in your trunk. When you pull into the drive, you will encounter a series of two stations. Station 1 will be for item return. You will stop and open your trunk. Our staff will remove your items. You will pull forward to Station 2, where staff and teachers will place items in your trunk belonging to your student.
To review what items your child may have, please see the check out list below. Remember: not all grade levels and classes brought home textbooks, and not every family borrowed a computer. Please use the checklist simply as a helpful guide.
6th Grade Return Day
Thursday, June 4th
Thursday, June 4th, is dedicated to our 6th graders. All 6th graders will pull through the Wendon Drive-thru. Unfortunately, this year, due to COVID - 19, we will be unable to host a promotion event. However, we want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to recognize how special this moment is in the lives of our students as they transition to middle school. Parents, I invite you to decorate your cars on Thursday for your end of the year drive-thru.
A - I (9 am to 10 am)
J - Q (10 am - 11 am)
R - Z (11 am - 12 pm)
Our teachers, as well as our PTA, have prepared some special parting gifts for our soon to be Oak Ave. Intermediate Lions. Students will receive their promotion certificate with folder, President's Award (if they qualify), bags from our teachers, 6th-grade shirts, and bags. They will be greeted with balloon arches and signs to let them know how much they are valued and appreciated. Unfortunately, we will be unable to provide students with yard signs, as mentioned in my previous Principal's Note. If you have any questions about this, please email me at cholmes@tcusd.net.
We understand that this cannot replace what is normally a very festive end of the year celebration. Many families donated at the beginning of the year to help with our end of the year play day. Any proceeds remaining will be available for refund to any family who donated and is wishing for their remaining portion returned. Please send me an email at cholmes@tcusd.net if you would like to receive a partial refund. (Based on the remaining balance after all costs incurred by the school).
Materials exchange process/ Health and safety guidelines
During the week of June 1st through June 4th (click on the link below titled "Longden End of the Year Checkout"), we will be collecting books and computers from our families and returning student materials. This will be taking place in each of our drives. Our primary grades will be using the Longden Drive while our upper grades will be using the Wendon Drive. During this entire process, families and students will remain in their cars.
Please make sure to follow the guidelines set forth by the LA County Department of Health.
A form will be shared with all families that must be placed in your window on the day you come to school to drop off and pick-up materials. During this scheduled pick-up, ALL textbooks and computer devices (that students have borrowed from the district) will need to be returned. We are also asking that all library books, that may still be at home, also be returned. All electronic devices need to be returned to Longden, even if the device came from the District Office. If you have any questions about the device you checked out, please email the TCUSD Help Desk @ tcusdhelpdesk@tcusd.net.
During the device/materials exchange, we are dividing our grad levels by Student Last Name Alphabetical Order. This alpha breakdown will be the same for every grade level.
Please see the schedule below for dates, times, and locations.

Newsies the Musical
As you remember, the district musical was canceled due to COVID-19 just before we experienced campus closure. Many of our students had donated to attend the musical matinee that Thursday. The performing arts boosters have generously offered to provide refunds for those families who wish to receive their donations back. Please email Stephanie Unger-Rodriguez at sungerrodriguez@tcusd.net if you would like to receive a refund for your child's donation to attend Newsies. All unclaimed donations will go to the High school to help with the costs of the musical. Although the show was canceled, there were still a number of costs associated with the musical.
