The Swann Lion Times

Your Swann news update!

What Our Lions are Learning

EOGs are right around the corner! Make sure your student is beginning to think about test taking strategies, reviewing their math facts, using the review tools they are getting in their classes, and practicing getting a full night's sleep!

We also want to make sure our Swann Lions know that there is more to them than one test score. They are artists, athletes, scholars, musicians, performers, dancers, content creators, and leaders. They are friends and important parts of their families and communities. EOGs may measure how well they can apply the math and reading skills they've learned this year, but they don't measure everything that makes them a unique and awesome person! So while we all encourage our students to do their very best on their EOGs, let's not forget to also honor all the ways they've grown this year!

Be sure to ask your Swann Lion to tell you more about what they are doing in their classes!

No-Cost School Meals

The federal waivers that allowed all schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students are ending this summer. To ensure that students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are able to receive those meals on the first day of school, we are asking parents to fill out the application at www.lunchapplication.com or get a paper form from the front office. This will establish a family’s qualifications for meal discounts for the first 30 days of the 2022-23 school year.

A new application must be completed after July 1 for the remainder of the school year.

GCS Federal Funds Feedback

Each year Guilford County Schools completes an application for Federal funds, including Titles I, II, III, and Title IV funds. Part of the process is stakeholder consultation. The survey pertains to the use of Federal funds to improve schools and student achievement. We would like you to complete the survey so that you have an opportunity to submit input into our Federal application. Please reply by June 3!

Volunteer Opportunities

Roar Store Donations

Please help us reward students who are consistently on time to class and meet school-wide expectations by supplying our Roar Store! Every morning, students who have earned Den Dollars for their positive behaviors can shop in the Roar Store. Single-serve bags of Takis, chips, and Hot Cheetos, and Gatorade are especially popular! We would also love Sonic or Wendy's gift cards to use for providing special rewards. Contact Dr. Bocci if you have questions at boccim@gcsnc.com.

Swann Lions Athletics

Congratulations to all our Spring sports teams on their wonderful seasons! We are so proud of our student athletes.
