3D Animation

Taught by Mr. Volmer

In this class, we will be learning how to use Blender. Blender is a powerful and sophisticated 3D animation program designed and written by geeks in the industry who wanted to be able to create CG movies and video games and be able to customize it for their own needs. Blender is freeware that would sell for $1500 to $2000 if you were to buy a similar program. We will begin with basic modeling techniques then add color texture and other properties. From there we move into basic shape animation and scene design with pathways for objects, characters and /or cameras to follow. In the second semester, we will work on making a 3 to 4 minute animated video complete with animated characters, scenery, and sound track. Although Blender is used to create video games, that is not covered in this class, however, all of the skills learned are needed to be able to go on to make video games.

We also do a short unit on 3D printing. Students learn the basics of this new technology to design a key tab project and then we print the projects out.
