Jump Rope for Heart Winners
Our St. Joe's Campus participated in the American Heart Association's 2018 Jump Rope for Heart. From the AMA website:
"Jump Rope For Heart are national education and fundraising events sponsored by the American Heart Association and the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE). These events engage elementary and middle school students with jumping rope while empowering them to improve their own health and help other kids with heart-health issues.
Jump Rope For Heart Help Students Grow!
- Kids learn the value of community service and become empowered to contribute to their community's welfare.
- Children join together in helping other kids with special hearts.
- Students learn how to develop heart-healthy habits while being physically active
- Participants learn jump rope skills they can use for the rest of their lives.
- Students help your school earn gift certificates for free P.E. equipment!"
Pictured above are our top 3 'Jump Rope for Heart' students: Brooklyn Heiden-grade 3, Colton Roberts-grade 5 and Matthew Lester-grade 1. The participating elementary students raised a total of $926 by jumping rope during their PE classes.
Congrats Chess Champ!

Great Alumni Achievement!
Dr. Ryan Newberry is a 1998 graduate of Aquin High School and a 2003 graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He has served as a firefighter/paramedic for the Freeport and Rockford fire departments and as a flight paramedic for OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center’s Lifeline Helicopter. Newberry was awarded the awarded the Freeport Fire Chief's award for exemplary service and the Illinois Fire Chief's Award for humanitarian service for search/rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina. He was also awarded OSF's 2010 "Flight of the Year" for his role in the successful rescue of a person from a collapsed trench in Pearl City. In 2012, he was inducted into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism in Medicine Honor Society. His latest achievement is becoming the 1st American to be part of the London's Air Ambulance Team. Listen to him tell how his experiences at HOYA helped prepare him for his role today.
(Note: He was going to get a note to Aquin, relating how Aquin helped prepare him also, but he hasn't had time in his busy schedule--we totally understand. Keep saving lives Ryan!)
We realize being a HOYA student, completing the class, and becoming a CNA is an amazing accomplishment and we are very proud of each student who has successfully completed our program in the last 22 years. We would love to showcase some of these HOYA success stories like . . . Dr. Ryan Newberry with London's Air Ambulance.
So everyone can view Dr. Newberry's testimonial, we screen-recorded it, uploaded to Youtube and have linked it below. Or you can view the video on Facebook here.
Who will be the next Aquin Alumnus making news?
