Principal Welcome
EGMS AUGUST 2022
Dear Students and Parents,
Please view our STAFF LIST in order to familiarize yourself with your child’s teachers. We encourage you to contact teachers directly if you have any concerns about your student’s classroom performance.
One of our goals every year is to get you, the parents, involved in your child’s education. Middle School is not a time to be backing off. In fact, research will show that it is a critical time for parents to be involved and active in their child’s life. They may act like they are pulling away from you, but in reality they need your guidance and support more than ever.
All of us at EGMS are dedicated to serving you and your child. As the year progresses, I encourage you to call and talk with those who might be able to help you the most. If your question deals with in-class events, please ask to speak with the teacher. Student issues and conflicts should be directed to the counselor. If it deals with the overall program, curriculum or activities, please call the administration.
Myself and the entire staff at EGMS are committed to helping your child experience academic, social and emotional growth this year. With your support and involvement, your child will learn! If you have any questions, at any time, don’t hesitate to call us at 402-289-9399.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Tomjack, Principal

Our School
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
School for all students will begin on Tuesday, August 16 at 8:10 a.m. An alternative schedule will be designed the first day to allow for orientation activities that will include building tours, transitional activities and an extended lunch period.
Doors will open at 7:40am and ALL students will enter the building upon arrival and report directly to the commons/gym. Traffic will be extremely busy the first few days of school with long lines. We strongly encourage you to carpool, if possible. We also ask that you not stop traffic to take pictures or walk your child to the front door. If you feel your child needs additional time in the building prior to school starting, please give us a call to discuss those concerns.
The first day will function as a normal school day and will end at 3:20 p.m. Lunch will be served and buses will run. If you have questions about bus transportation, please call Chief School Bus service, (402) 392-2144 or Central Office, (402) 289-2579.
Start & Ending Time
The official school day starts at 8:10am and ends at 3:20pm. There is morning supervision on duty daily starting at 7:40am.
Front Entrance
At approximately 8:15am, the security system will activate and any student, parent, or visitor needing entrance into the building will need to push the “Video Call Button” to alert the office and request entry. An office staff member will then trigger the door to open for entry. During regular school hours, all visitors should come to the front entrance on the North side of the building.
FOOTBALL & VOLLEYBALL (7th & 8th Graders Only)
Students participating in sports must have their physicals turned in before they can begin practicing. For FB and VB, it is imperative that you turn your physical in BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. You should be able to upload it during the registration process.
Parents can access game schedules by visiting the Activities Calendar located on our website.
EPS will be charging admission at middle school athletic events. Admission will be $3 for adults and $2 for students. Purchasing an activity pass will give you free admission to ALL Elkhorn Public School activities (middle & high school). Purchase Activity Passes On-line through the SchoolPay portal.
STUDENT DROP-OFF & PICK-UP
All traffic will need to circle through the back parking lot before coming to the front of the building.
Morning Drop-off: traffic flow will be as stated above. All students will enter through the North main door only. We encourage students to be ready to exit the vehicle once you arrive on school property. Students may then exit your vehicle at any time (curbside) and walk to the front of the building. Once vehicles make the final turn to the front of the building, students should exit at the first opportunity. Drop Off Video.
After School Pick-up: traffic will flow as stated above. Lines are long before 3:20. Please be patient and understanding. When cars are stacked after school (not moving) you may pick up your student curbside around the entire building. However, once traffic starts to move, there will be two designated pick-up zones. Pick up Video.
*Important Note: All student drop–off and pick-up needs to be curbside. Students will not be allowed to cross traffic to get in or out of cars. This is a safety issue and will assist in keeping traffic moving.
*Parking is not allowed on Grand Ave directly in front of the school. The road is not wide enough to accommodate parking AND 2-way traffic.
Bus loading zone will also be in the front. We will have signs posted to designate the bus loading zone.
