Message From Principal Engdall
Greetings Shaw!
Thank you for your patience, support and cheerleading as we get this school year underway. I think the children will tell you that the best part of this week was seeing all of our Shaw friends again and teachers too! If you experience minor problems with Gmail accounts or navigating to and from classrooms and you need support immediately, Patti Karnes will be available when she is not teaching media center classes. She can reached at Patricia.Karnes@phxschools.org If you believe that it is a computer issue, sound or camera, contact Jennifer.Hawkins@phxschools.org If it is a Google Classroom issue, your teacher can assist you.
Please continue to give us feedback as we work the kinks out of instruction and delivery knowing this may take a few days for the children to become independent and the teachers proficient. The teachers will spend time with Digital Citizenship these first few days and will continue to work through behaviors that might be off task, distracting and un-productive. Please supply us with gentle, continual feedback as we try to make these virtual environments fun, enriching and engaging for our students. Ms. (Hawkins) Collier will be providing Parent Technology Help on Monday from 8:30-10:30 or Wednesday from 4:00-6:00. Drop by to get your technology questions answered!

Our Shaw Leadership Team and teachers began our year with a Community Circle under the guidance of Dr. Calvin Centáe Richards. During this circle the teaching staff debriefed and shared their thoughts on the impact to our community from comments that were made during the June 30th board meeting by one of our staff members. A lot of work needs to be done to make certain that we understand, recognize, and are able to disrupt racism and bias on our campus and in our larger community and we are committed to this work. We are working closely with district leadership, our equity action team lead and outside consultants to develop a comprehensive plan with feedback gathered from all of us—our staff, our students and our parents and guardians. We appreciate your continued patience as we plan our course to build an even more inclusive community at Shaw.
Over the past 27 years the Shaw community has overcome many difficulties as we grew. The diversity of our students, families and staff have always been a cornerstone and one of our greatest assets during these times. We will face this together and come out as we have before stronger, wiser and more beautiful!
Wishing you the very best,
Principal Engdall
