Pumpkin Decorating Challenge!
It is October and that means pumpkins are everywhere! Let’s take this fun theme and add in some reading fun. Pick a book and a small or medium pumpkin and decorate it like your favorite book character. You can decorate it any way you like, paint it, glue things onto it, add any fun details you would like. Please just don’t carve the pumpkin as they will be on display for a couple weeks, and we do not want them rotting.
Pumpkins can be turned in anytime, just bring them to the library. This project is voluntary but can be a lot of family fun. Check Google and Pinterest for fun pumpkin decorating inspiration. Pumpkins will be on display in the display cases through parent teacher conferences and sent home on Friday November 1st. We cannot wait to see your fabulous creations.
Please include the bottom information on a piece of the paper with your pumpkin, as all entries will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to the upcoming book fair.
Have lots of fun,
Amy Barr,
Library Media Specialist

Parenting in Challenging Times: What is conscious discipline, and why does it matter?
Join us for a webinar on Oct 22, 2019 at 6:00 PM CDT. Register now!
Used for classroom management and social-emotional learning, conscious discipline is based on current brain research, child development information and age-appropriate practices. This approach teaches self-regulation skills, focuses on children's voice and empowers them to achieve behavioral goals. Benefits include creating healthy connections, improving impulse control and encouraging cooperation. Conscious discipline is an opportunity for us to better understand and change behavior, allowing us to effectively serve students' needs. Audra Olson will explain conscious discipline, drawing on her 30 years of experience as an educator and counselor in our Park Hill schools. Retired from the classroom, Olson continues to serve our students. She studied with the creator of conscious discipline, and she is working with our staff to bring these skills to Park Hill.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Conference Meal Sign-ups
Our wonderful PTA supports our teachers on conference days by providing meals since teachers do not have breaks to get away for lunch and/or dinner on those days. Please go to the link below to volunteer!
Fall Costume Parade and Classroom Celebrations
On October 31, we will have a costume parade and fall parties in our classrooms. Our costume parade will begin at 2:15 and parties will follow from 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm. Students will be allowed to wear a costume to school all day. We want to encourage students to wear a costume or a simplified version of their costume to school on this day instead of bringing a costume to school as changing into a costume isn’t included in our plans on this day.
For the safety of our Timberwolves, we do need to follow Park Hill School Board Policy JFCA in the selection of this costume.
Here are some key points:
- Disruptive or offensive costumes are not allowed. (Example: No Gore and No Blood)
- Costume masks and face paint are prohibited.
- Shoes must be worn.
- Accessories such as a toy weapon, pretend weapon, or prop should not be sent with your child’s costume.
- Select a costume that would be acceptable within our school setting.
This FUN day is a day of learning for us. We will wait until just before the party begins to wrap up teaching and learning. The costume parade will be on the playground, so parents may gather on the playground for picture opportunities!

Box Tops for Education
You might have noticed some changes with many Box Tops products you've purchased recently. Box Tops for Education (BTFE) is going digital! If you see the BTFE label on any products, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10 cents for your school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online. Just download the app, sign up for free, choose TIFFANY RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and scan away. Receipts need to be scanned within 2 weeks of purchase. BTFE is phasing out the traditional Box Tops clips, but you can still send them to the school and we can still get 10 cents for every Box Tops clip. Thank you for helping raise money for our students!
Watch D.O.G.S. at Tiffany Ridge

Nominate a Staff Member for the Park Hill STAR Award
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee. Anyone can nominate an employee for this award by using the form below. It asks you to share how your nominee demonstrates our district values of continuous improvement, high expectations, integrity, visionary leadership and student focus. You can also share how your nominee supports the goals in our district’s strategic plan.
