Great Things Going On In Third Grade

We have a big week coming up in third grade! On Wednesday, we will take a field trip to the symphony. All students should bring a snack and water bottle for the bus, a sack lunch, and drink for when we return to school. Students should dress nicely for the symphony, no shorts or jeans.

We are so excited to see all of the students that have been logging on to Think Through Math! It is such a valuable tool to help your child be successful in third grade math. If your child has not logged in, please help them do so. The students love it!!! We highly recommend that students log in four times a week for 20 to 30 minutes each session. It is fun and educational at the same time, a huge win for everyone! In Math this week, we will finish our study of fractions and introduce multiplication. Students will also take their math district assessment on Thursday, October 20th.

In Reading, students will learn about non-fiction/expository text. Students will learn how to use text features to help them understand their reading. We will explore the different types of informational text structures: descriptive, problem/solution, compare/contrast, cause/effect, and sequencing. Students will learn to analyze text to determine text structure.

In Writing, students will learn how to write an expository paragraph. They will learn how to write a topic sentence with supporting details and a conclusion.

In Social Studies, we will begin a new ELM over diversity in America. Students will explore how people immigrated to America. They will look at the different cultures, customs, traditions and celebrations that people brought with them, that have influenced our culture today. Students will learn about our country's motto 'E Pluribus Unum' and how it relates to diversity in America. Please see our attached ELM challenge brief.
