Hello LISD Families,

Our message today is all about gratitude and appreciation.

Thanks to the LIPTSA for planning and hosting a spooktacular Pumpkin Extravaganza and Dia de los Muertos celebration yesterday. It was fun to see so many students and their families carving pumpkins, eating poutine, making paper flowers and having an all-around grand time.

We also appreciate the LISD school board and our superintendent, Ed Murray, for recognizing us at Wednesday's board meeting. Evidently, October is National Principals Month! We both want you all to know that it is a great honor and privilege to work with the students, staff, board, and families of LISD. This work can be joyful, messy, thrilling, and complex, but it is always gratifying. We are so happy to be here on Lopez Island, and we are grateful for our partnership in this worthy work.

All our best,

Martha and Mary

Early Dismissals Next Week

  • For elementary students, there will be a 2:00 early release every day next week.
  • For secondary students, there will be a 2:00 early release on Tuesday (as usual) and also Wednesday.

Fall Conferences

Conferences are coming up the week of November 1. For both elementary and secondary families, we are asking you to please bring your student with you to the conference. It is important that students have a voice when adults are talking about their academic progress and learning goals.

For elementary families, the conferences will be November 1-4 after 2:15 p.m. Elementary teachers will be contacting each family to let you know when your child's conference has been scheduled, along with instructions for changing the conference day/time if necessary.

Secondary conferences will be Wednesday, November 3 after 2:15. Parents/guardians can sign up in Family Access on Qmlativ.

Please contact the elementary and/or secondary offices to let us know if you need Spanish interpretation services at your conference(s).

Secondary Grades

First quarter/Term 1 ends on October 29. This date marks the halfway point in semester 1! First quarter/Term 1 report cards will be available in the Portfolio tile in Family Access on Wednesday afternoon.

For grades on classroom assignments and assessments, check Canvas.

Veteran's Day Assembly - Tuesday, November 9, 10:05 a.m.

The ASB is planning a Veteran's Day assembly and we need to get the word out. If you know a veteran here on Lopez Island, please send me their name and contact info. I'll pass it along to ASB, so they can invite our local veterans to this event.

Thanks to everyone who made the LIPTSA Pumpkin Extravaganza and Dia de los Muertos such a success!
