Team 9 Core Classes

Language Arts

Students just wrapped up their second writing assessment of the year! Each student wrote an argumentative paragraph that addressed the following prompt: "How or why is truth manipulated in the short story "The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant?" Students will receive their scores and feedback from me this week, so ask your student to share this information with you!

This week we will dive deep into the world of Edgar Allan Poe. Our last text of Unit 1 is his famous "Tell-Tale Heart" short story. I have lots of fun things planned for this text!

Please feel free to e-mail me at any time with questions or concerns about your student's progress in Language Arts. I am happy to help with all of your needs! Thank you for sharing your student with me--I'm having a great school year with this group of kiddos.

Math- Mrs. Williams

Hello, Team 9 Families!

We are moving right along with equations in class. Students will be working with rational coefficients (the dreaded fractions-AHHH!). There is always tutoring and Schoology help available. We will also be solving equations that have one solution, no solutions, and infinite many solutions as well as writing equations from a verbal or written description. Please have your student ask for help if they need it. Help links are posted on Schoology. I can meet with students before or after school if they set it up with me FIRST at least a day in advance. Or they can come to lunch tutoring.

  • Quiz and posttest retakes will be during tutor times and WINN next week. Students may retake Review Quiz 2 and the Post Testonce- they must turn in missing work and study first to ensure they are successful on the retakes.

Please email or call if you have questions.

US History

Friday 9/6

Grades to look for--
Valley Forge DBQ's and Vocab Quiz 1 are in the gradebook. Students have one re-take on the Vocab Quiz, and revisions for the DBQ go final at the end of the day, so be sure to remind your students to get those turned in. For students that turned them in late (today), I will have the grades updated over the weekend.

This week we learned about Thomas Hobbes and John Locke and their different ideas about the state of nature, natural rights and the purpose of government.

ASK YOUR STUDENT WHETHER THEY THINK HOBBES OR LOCKE ARE RIGHT ABOUT HUMAN NATURE!

We also learned about the Articles of Confederation, our nation's first attempt at a national government and why it failed.

Next week we will review, then start on the US Constitution!

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Science

We worked to answer the following essential questions this week:

  • What does the record look like up close?
  • Are other objects that produce music also moving back and forth when they make sounds?

This week we brought in tuning forks, a guitar, and drums to compare our record player to different music makers. We had fun playing the instruments and watching different movements in slow motion.

Also, during WINN the students have been working on building a bridge with spaghetti and hot glue. We had a fun time testing them on Friday! Congrats to our winners!

As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns!
