From the Principal...
December 17th, 2021
Dear Westbrook Families,
At last night’s Board of Education meeting, the School Board approved an eLearning plan for emergency school closures. Emergency means an event of inclement weather or failure of building or public utility infrastructure that renders all schools in the district unable to be opened. The plan must also be approved by the Regional Office of Education. If approved, students at Westbrook School will need access to district devices at home to access eLearning. The technology department will be working to ensure Westbrook devices are ready to go home after winter break. More information will be coming from the technology department in January.
I want to wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday break. I hope you have time to relax and enjoy yourself with family and friends. We look forward to seeing our students and continuing our work together in the new year.
For your children,
Danielle Crandall
Items from Home
As a reminder, students can bring small items from the home to play with during indoor recess. However, we do not want students to lose, trade, or break valuable items. As we head into the new year, we encourage parents to check in with their students regarding items they are bringing to school.

A Note from Jason Kaiz, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations
Dear Parents/Guardians of 1st Grade Students,
We appreciate everyone's flexibility this year as we implemented our free lunch food program. We continue to update our processes as we assist students in getting a free lunch. Unfortunately, the online application we started using in November had limitations that we did not expect. Therefore, we are moving back to an online survey for lunches in January. The good news is that parents will now receive a confirmation email after completing the form.
With the addition of a confirmation email, we will be having parents sign up for the next four weeks (January 3-28) at once. Please make sure to keep the confirmation email so that you know which days you signed up for lunches.
This lunch form is for Full-Day Elementary Students:
- Please complete THIS FORM to participate in the free lunch program. This is a free and optional program. However, for your child to participate, families are required to complete the weekly lunch order form
- To avoid waste, please do not order free lunch on January 7th if you signed up for PTO's Special Lunch. If you are unsure if you signed up for Special Lunch, contact the Westbrook office.
- The form is due by NOON on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
We encourage all families to participate in this program.
If you have any questions or do not receive a confirmation email, please email me directly for support at jkaiz@d57.org

Note from the Nurse: COVID-19 Vaccination Card Information
Dear Parents,
District 57 offers families the opportunity to voluntarily provide their child’s COVID-19 vaccination status. This information is important to have on file as students who are fully vaccinated (2 weeks post 2nd dose) do not need to quarantine if identified as a close contact (per IDPH guidelines) and remain asymptomatic. We are asking parents to send a copy of their child's Covid vaccination card to the health office after their child receives their second dose.
Thank you,
Julie Tworek, RN
