ORPD to Close Road on Halloween
POSTED: OCTOBER 25, 2019
A temporary road closure is planned along part of Nebraska Avenue for Thursday, October 31, 2019, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 11 p.m.
A small portion of the 100-block of Nebraska Avenue, between Newridge Road and Newhaven Road, will be blocked to through traffic. Residents will still be able to get to and from their homes during this time.
The closure is necessary to create a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians expected to visit the annual “Halloween House” residential attraction.
“Traffic flow and safety on Halloween night is always a serious concern for the department and our patrol officers,” ORPD Lt. Matthew Tedford explained. “With the amount of foot traffic in the neighborhood and the lack of on-street parking, we’ve continued to work closely with the family organizing the Halloween House to find a solution.”
The police department requests patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our citizens. Anyone with questions about the temporary road closure should contact the Oak Ridge Police Department at (865) 425-3504.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.
The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below, and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. Students in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. These competitions are administered around the country on Thursday, January 30, 2020 and Wednesday, February 5, 2020. The AMC 10/12 provides an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. The AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad (see Invitational Competitions).
The AMC 10/12 is also available in French, Spanish, large print, and braille.

SUPERIORS FOR THE WILDBAND!
WILDBAND FRUIT SALE IS HERE!
The Oak Ridge High School Marching Band is currently in its biggest fundraiser of the year – the Annual Fruit Sale. Orders are being taken by all Band students or on our website at https://shop.floridaindianrivergroves.com/ecommerce/742353. Order by November 11th with delivery on December 13th.
Don’t do citrus? Several other food items are available to order. Donations are also accepted on the website.
Another avenue to help - the Band is ALWAYS looking for donations of the “used, but not being used” instruments in closets, attics and basements. Providing an instrument for students to use at all levels of performance, from the beginner to the advanced, is a large part of the support needed in the Oak Ridge Schools’ Band Program.
We appreciate your support of the award winning WildBand!

NEW: Work Ethic Distinction for Diploma
Students graduating with a district-developed work ethic distinction shall be recognized at their graduation ceremony. This distinction will be useful for presentation to future employers for work-based learning, apprenticeships, and employment in a chosen field after graduation. WAYS TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS AT ORHS!
FOOD CITY SCHOOL BUCKS PROGRAM!
It’s time for Food City’s School Bucks Program that helps support ORHS-CDC! The program begins Wednesday, September 4, 2019 and ends on May 5, 2020.
Parents can use this to easily link their ValuCard to their school of choice at checkout.
• At the cash register, have the cashier scan the barcode along with your Food City ValuCard. This will automatically link the two together, which means you only need to scan this barcode one time. The PLU listed below may also be entered at the cash register by the cashier in lieu of scanning barcode.
• Parents also can register their ValuCard online by visiting www.foodcity.com/schoolbucks
From that point, it’s simple… just shop and earn valuable points for your school. Remember this is a ValuCard program… use your ValuCard and save for ORHS-CDC. Nothing has to be done again until next school year!
*Please share the barcode information with family and friends! You can only register your ValuCard with one school/program so please make it ORHS-CDC! Thank you in advance for your support!
