Boston Bombings

Hannah Chaparro

On April 15th at around 2:49 p.m. in Boston, Massachusetts; two pressure cooker bombs exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon. These bombs were set off by two brothers by the names of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tameran Tsarnaev. There were still more than 5,600 runners when the bombs exploded and 3 were killed while more than 260 were wounded. This was a terrorist attack carried out for Radical Islam.

Media Portrayal #1

One angle that was taken when portraying this event was that it was all because the attackers are Muslim. One approach that the media takes is that all Muslim's are terrorists. A lot of people use that as a reason to say that all Muslim's should be banned from America to stop terrorist attacks.

Media Portrayal #2

Another way the media portrayed this event is as a conspiracy theory. This happens a lot with controversial events, such as 9/11. Many people believe that the government sets these tragedies up against their own people. This has not been proved to be true but rumors have been spread from people speculating and forming their own opinions.

The media may sway your opinion depending on what source you hear or read from. The author may write his article to try and change your opinion to match theirs. Somebody who thinks the bombings were a conspiracy theory may show pictures or write with bias. You have to be careful if you want strictly facts because most things are written with bias. you must find a reliable source that doesn't affect your opinion.

Criticism #1

The main criticism I see in the Boston Bombings is historical. Bombings and terrorist attacks have become something that happens too often, not only in the U.S. but the world. In history, bombings have made a big impact on the people involved and the societies involved. History tends to repeat itself and there have been more bombings since The Boston Bombings and there will most likely be more to come.

Criticism #2

Another criticism that can be seen through the Boston Bombings is cultural. So many people believe that all Muslims are terrorists and that is racist. This is cultural criticism because people make these assumptions about these people due to their race and religion. Though this is not true, people are persuaded by public opinions and make their own assumptions.
