Boston Tea Party
On May 10,1773 the Tea Act was put into place. This angered many of the patriots. Tired and sick of getting told what to do by a country thousands miles over the water, on December 16, 1773, the Sons of Liberty tossed several tons of tea into the Boston Harbor. This angered the British. The wasting of tea was just a big "NO NO!" The Bostonians have a lot of repercussions thanks to this crazy act.
Proclamation of 1763
Issued on October 7, 1763, by King George III, declared that the settlers of the thirteen colonies should not inhabit land past the Appalachian Mountains. Thanks to the French and Indian War the king of England issued this. This angered the colonist. It's not fair that settlers could not steal more land they thought they owned! This was a big problem for the colonist.
First Continental Congress
From September 5th to October 26th, 1774 twelve delegates from almost every colony met at Carpenter's Hill in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These delegates met in response to "The passage of the Coercive Acts". That act is also know as the Intolerable Act. It was passed by the British Parliament. This act was in reaction to the Boston Tea Party.
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was the fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, between a patriot mob, throwing snowballs, and a squad of British soldiers stationed in Boston after the Boston Tea Party. One of the five men to be killed was Crispus Attucks. He was a African American man. Several others were hurt but not killed. This caused an uproar with the colonist. The uproar raged from the south all the way to the north of America.
Lexington and Concord
The first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. It began April 19, 1775. The first shot was called the "Shot heard around the world." The fight was in between Great Britain and the thirteen colonies. Many colonist that fought were not trained; some just grabbed their musket and fought.
Battle of Yorktown
On October 19, 1781 the war was finally won. The colonist defeated the British in battle. The colonist were led by General George Washington. The British were lead by General Charles Cornwallis. The French also aided in this battle and was led by the Comte de Rochambeau.
