Week of 1.5.16

This week in reading....

This week students learned how to find evidence in text and apply it to Venn diagrams. As a class we read two different nonfiction texts about bears. Students then went back and highlighted information they found important. We then filled out a vent diagram with the facts we found. Next students were paired up and received two additional nonfiction texts about different bears. Students worked together to create one vent diagram.

Finally we applied what we learned with nonfiction and compared and contrasted Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs.

We also learned about compound words, read a leveled reader in guided reading and played sight word bingo.

Next week we our starting our big Freckle Juice Unit. As a whole class (and in small groups) we will be reading the chapter book and will be completing a special journal and will complete different iPad activities. This is a very exciting unit that the class is going to love!
