As we prepare for a big weekend that includes the Holiday Fair, a state championship game for our girls’ soccer team, and a state-level competition for our dance team, let’s first recall a few headlines from the past week:
The HHS Veterans Appreciation Club and members of the school band provided excellent support at the town’s annual Veterans’ Day Observation last Friday.
The girls’ soccer team qualified for the state championship with a thrilling overtime victory over top-seeded Bishop Feehan in the semi-finals on Tuesday night.
The HHS Green Team led our school’s annual celebration of America Recycles Day on Tuesday, and, in a longstanding tradition, the dance team turned in a dominant performance on Opening Day of the annual “Slash the Trash” competition.
First term report cards were released on Wednesday.
The HHS School Council continued work on the School Improvement Plan during its monthly meeting on Wednesday.
The HHS Quiz Bowl team learned that it qualified to compete in the 14th season of the “High School Quiz Show” on WGBH.
HHS honored its invaluable substitute teachers on Substitute Educators Day yesterday. Anybody who would like to join their ranks should apply online!
Looking ahead…
The girls’ soccer team will play for the Division I state championship tomorrow afternoon. Hingham faces Wellesley in a 1 PM game at Walpole High School.
The dance team will compete in the state dance competition tomorrow at 1 PM at Weymouth High School.
HHS will host the annual Hingham Holiday Fair tomorrow.
The Student Council has planned a Spirit Week with several dress-up themes: Pajamas on Monday, neon on Tuesday, and flannel on Wednesday.
The GSA will lead recognition of the Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday.
The annual Turkey Trot, the biggest fundraiser of the year for our cross-country and track teams, is now less than a week away. Sign up today, and get training!
The Fall Musical premieres in less than two weeks, and it’s not too soon to reserve your tickets for what is sure to be an amazing show!
Finally, because COVID remains a stubborn reality…
Free tests will be distributed to any HHS students who want them during lunch blocks on Monday 11/21 and Tuesday 11/22. Thanks to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Public Health, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has provided at-home COVID-19 tests at no cost to school districts. These tests are intended for use by students and staff to support the return to school process after Thanksgiving and Winter breaks. We are able to provide every student with two tests. It is recommended tests be used no sooner than 24 hours prior to returning to school after these holiday breaks. The tests are Flow Flex (single kits) which expire on January 20,2023. This is only a recommendation and meant as an option for families. We ask that families continue to follow COVID guidelines from the state to ensure the safety and wellness of our school community.
The daily notices, the full school calendar, and the student newspaper, can always be viewed on the HHS website. Look for details on the website and in our weekly PTO newsletter.
Have a great weekend, and Go Hingham!
