Weekly Newsletter from Principal Quattrucci

The Week of May 9th

Thank you!

Thank you to the PTA and all who showed their appreciation for our faculty and staff this week. It was amazing to see the beautiful welcome to everyone on Monday morning and be treated to a wonderful continental breakfast! The PTA was so very generous with the many, many raffle prizes throughout the week, and how nice it was for everyone to also receive a gift card to Dunkin Donuts!

Thank you also to the PTA for running the school store today! The children really enjoyed it and we appreciate all you do for our school!

Thank you to Mrs. Eastman, Mr. Torres, and Mrs. Kovolski, who took the fifth graders to the library on Thursday for a special presentation titled, "Gold and Silver: Two Visits to Japan with Don and Tom Mellor." Don Mellor, a veteran, served in Japan in World War II, and his son, Tom Mellor, was a 1972 Silver Medalist Olympian in Sapporo. This story was told in the book Striking Silver: The Untold Story of America's Forgotten Hockey Team by Tom Caraccioli and Jerry Caraccioli. Tom Mellor was recently inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2022, the same week his father, Don, turned 101! I'm so glad our students were able to be there for the presentation.

Please be aware that this Wednesday, May 11th, is a professional development day for teachers, and although teachers will assign work, there will not be any live meets.

Thank you so much for all the appreciation!

Kindergarten Orientation

Incoming kindergarten students will be invited to visit Greystone and meet their new teachers on June 2nd at 10:00am.

Wellness Week

Our district Wellness Week is May 23rd-May 27th. We will participate in a variety of activities, such as taking time each day to reflect on gratitude, do some stretching and meditating, and we will have opportunities to play movement break bingo. Each class will also be assigned a different wellness topic to explore and be responsible for creating signage for the rest of the school to raise awareness on their given topic. For example, kindergarten will learn why it is important to eat fruits and vegetables every day, and then create drawings on construction paper (in school) encouraging others to eat fruits and vegetables. We will also encourage children to sign a "Healthy Habits" pledge!
