PLANNING THE FUTURE OF AUSD - YOUR INPUT NEEDED

On October 10th, our District launched an online social media site called Thoughtexchange. Our goal has been to hear from you what you believe are the most important things we need to consider as we plan for the future of AUSD. To date, we've had over 300 ideas submitted and approximately 17,000 ratings of those ideas.

It is very important that we hear from you. I highly encourage you to contribute your thoughts and ideas to help us improve our District and build the future of AUSD. It is only by understanding all perspectives that we can best serve the needs of our students. Click here to add your thoughts and ideas. Thoughtexchange closes October 23, 2018, at 8:00 p.m.

Below is how the process will work.

AUSD SCHOOL BUS POINT OF CONTACT

Even though our students are riding Grossmont buses, we want to make sure you have a school district contact to answer your questions. If you have questions and you are unable to resolve them with Grossmont, please contact Mary Ann Alvarez at the District Office @ 619-445-3236 x806.

SUPERINTENDENT STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING

Our first Superintendent Student Advisory Committee meeting was held on Thursday, October 4th, at JMMS. Students will be working alongside the Student Board members and the Superintendent to share their ideas and be the voice of students. Our students have identified three priorities for this year.
  1. Clarifying JMMS homework policy
  2. Solve the bee issue on campus
  3. Increase the allocation of chromebooks

WHEEL OF EXPERTS - HANDS ON SCIENCE

The “Wheel of Experts”, a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (S.T,E.A.M.) based multiple pathway program provides for student enrichment. Students from kindergarten through 5th grade are exposed to multiple STEAM based courses throughout the school year. As students progress in the program year-to-year, the curriculum will become more advanced, and allow students to explore pathways of interest going into and throughout middle school and high school. This terrific Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math offering is designed for Alpine Union students from Kindergarten through the 5th Grade and is supported and funded through the generosity of the Alpine Education Foundation. As of this writing, the Wheel of Experts has completed 144 lessons throughout the District.

KINDNESS WEEK

Every other month, we will be celebrating Kindness Week across AUSD. Our goal is to acknowledge and celebrate acts of kindness, respect and be compassionate to one another. We hope you will join in helping our students celebrate one another and develop the ability to be empathetic. Our next Kindness Week will take place November 26 - 30.

INCREASING MATH RIGOR IN OUR CLASSROOMS

This year we are placing a heavy emphasis on increasing math rigor in our classrooms. We are taking a comprehensive approach to professional development. Our teachers have all participated in grade level training, working with colleagues across schools. Ask your child about number talks in their classrooms.

EARLY ADMISSION KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

CELC will start accepting EAK registrations online on Oct. 1st. Do you have a child turning 5 between December 2nd and January 31st? He or she is eligible for Early Admission to Kindergarten (EAK). EAK provides an opportunity for students to get an early start on their education. Class placement is based on birthdate and date registration packet is received. Please click here to access the registration form.

CAREER DAY MARCH 29TH @ JMMS

We are excited to once again offer Career Day to all of our middle school students. This is a unique opportunity for our students to talk with professionals and begin to think about potential careers in the future.

This event will be held with the support of the Alpine Chamber of Commerce on Friday, March 29, 2019, at Joan MacQueen Middle School. Please see the flyer below.
