Message from Ms. Peña
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am so very appreciative for all of the kindness and warmth demonstrated by the Haycox families! I have been pleased that we have had positive feedback AND constructive suggestions doing our recent meetings here at school. We will continue to work together throughout the year. Thank you all for your daily work toward supporting your children to be successful in school each day! We have completed the first trimester of the school year, and now it’s time for a bit of rest! I wish all Haycox students and families a wonderful week with lots of time with people you love!
A few reminders:
Report cards will be shared during parent/teacher conferences.
Teachers have sent home conference information with your student.
Conferences will start on November 28 and end on December 9, 2022
We will have shortened days during those two weeks:
Grades 1,2,3 will release at 1:20 and grades 4 and 5 will release at 1:40.
Coffee with the Principal
We are proud to bring our educational partners, "Cafe con Leche" to Haycox! These parent and staff gatherings are designed to help you learn more about Haycox, ask questions and receive any support you may need.
Please join us again on December 14th at 8:30 AM in our Wellness Center (Room 22). Please check in at the front office and then join us for some fresh coffee and pan dulce!
Project 2 Inspire
Our Project 2 Inspire classes will begin in January. This is a wonderful opportunity for developing leadership skills, to learn to be a strong support for your children throughout their educational career, and to build relationships within the school community. There will be 12 evening sessions, and you can participate virtually or in person. If you wish to participate virtually, we are able to lend you a computer, if needed. We will also be providing a resource notebook to all participants. This was a very successful and rewarding experience for all participants last year. We are limited to 30 participants of this program. If you would like to participate, please speak with Ms. Peña!
PTA Pizza Sales
PTA will be selling pizza, chips, and juice from 12:45 pm - 1:15 pm on Wednesday, December 14th. All proceeds will pay for Haycox student assemblies. A BIG thank you to all the families that donated boxes of Capri Sun to sell during our pizza sales. We also want to thank parents that came out to purchase pizza with their families. The day was a great success!
- Pizza $1 per slice
- Chip $1 per bag
- Juice $.50 per juice

CAASPP Practice Week
Haycox students just completed their first week of CAASPP Practice this week!! All students 3rd - 5th are preparing to take the Smarter Balanced Assessments this coming Spring as a part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. The primary purpose of the CAASPP System is to assist teachers, administrators, students, and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types.
The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment tests will be taken in May. The English language arts, math, and science tests will not be taken on the same day. The tests will include critical thinking and problem solving questions. These assessments are not timed, so students will have plenty of time to complete their tests.

Updated COVID Protocols
We send students home who are experiencing multiple cold or covid symptoms.
We can test students as part of the process (with parent permission).
If a student is absent due to COVID-related symptoms, the attendance record will indicate “PHM”
If they test positive, they must be out for 5 days from onset of symptoms or positive test.
Students can return after 5 days with a negative test.
If students don’t test it is mandatory that they stay out for 10 days.
We will be sending a green ticket with students who have tested positive for COVID and have met requirements for returning to school.
Regardless of vaccination status, students who are a close contacts are not required to quarantine if asymptomatic
