From the Principal's Desk…

Hi Parents and Carers,

Hard to believe but we are already at the pointy end of the term.

It’s great to see that most parents have had the opportunity to talk to their child’s teacher over the past couple of weeks. It is so important that we have strong lines of communication between home and school. A stronger home/school partnership was one of the positives to come out of remote learning and we, as a school, wish to continue with this. The benefits are immense for our students.

In the last week we have received a couple of donations to the school so I would like to thank:

· Andrew and Kate from EASTERN TREE MANAGEMENT for their donation of mulch for our working bee next Friday. On behalf of HPS – thank you for helping us mulch the garden beds and beautify the school.

· Mark at RITCHIES IGA - YARRA GLEN for the donation of book sets for our classrooms. It is always great to provide our students with new reading material. Ritchies IGA are selling them for $1.00 per book and there are 15 in a set. These titles are a popular selection by our students. There is further information below.

Just a couple of reminders:

· Our WORKING BEE is on next week, FRIDAY 25th MARCH, starting at 2:30pm. All our classes have different areas of the school to clean up. We need to weed, clean up our garden spaces and mulch. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We need wheelbarrows to move the mulch, rakes, gloves and of course, human assistance. Hope to see you there.

· PREP 2023 OPEN NIGHT and TOUR on 29th March at 6pm. Sharyn, Georgia and I are holding an Open Night for students starting Prep next year. This was a hugely successful night last year and we are hoping for a repeat. If you have a pre-schooler, know any friends, family or neighbours with a pre-schooler, please let them know to come along to see and hear about our fantastic school and the incredible Prep program run by Sharyn and Georgia.

· House Athletics is next Monday 21st March for Year 3-6 at Morrison Reserve in Mt Evelyn. Fingers crossed for clear skys and another action-packed sports day planned by Ali Bryan. The Juniors will hold their Athletics Carnival next Friday March 25th on the school oval.

· HPS Playgroup has begun for 2022. Wednesday afternoons at 2:30 in our community playgroup room next to the library. Rosie House is running this program, she has planned lots of fun and engaging activities for pre-schoolers to have positive experiences. It is a great opportunity to allow under 5’s a feel for a school and its environment.

Over the past week we have had an information session for parents, carers and grandparents who would like to be part of our school helpers’ program. It was fantastic to see lots of people putting their hand up to assist at school and their eagerness to do this. If you were unable to attend but are interested in helping out, please collect a copy of the booklet from the office. I can run through the confidentiality aspect and the Working With Children’s Check that is a requirement. We are always keen to have the community fully involved in the school and our programs.

This week we held our first PACH meeting and again it was great to see lots of parents wanting to be involved. If you were unable to attend but would still like to be involved in this, please contact Louise in the office via phone or email (louise.george@education.vic.gov.au) and she will give you further information. Again, it is a great opportunity to be further involved in your child’s school.

There is still an element of COVID within the school community so please continue to use the RATs and advise me of any positive cases. I need to notify the department of student and teacher positive cases. It has been great to see that the numbers within the school have dropped significantly and I hope that this continues. Masks are still mandatory for Grade 3-6 students and this is due to the overall low vaccination rates for students between 5yo and 11yo, across the state. Please continue to supply your child/children with a mask for school. We have been fortunate to get a further supply from the department and from Healesville High School, so we now have spares, but these will run out quickly.

Thank you for the continued support of our school.

Kind Regards,
