Students may qualify in one or more of the following areas of giftedness in Kentucky:

Identification Process
In the areas of visual and performing arts, creative and divergent thinking, and leadership/psychosocial skills, students must demonstrate these traits across all populations and environments. Specific evidence is collected and evaluated to determine qualification of gifted status.
Gifted Student Service Plan (aka GSSP)
In 6th grade, the GSSP is rewritten with new parent and student surveys as a means of adjusting the plan for the student as he or she develops as a student. This plan remains in effect in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
In 9th grade, the GSSP revision process occurs as a means of supporting the student through high school.
A GSSP is a document that helps guide teachers in the development of curriculum and programming for the student. For the most part, all items indicated on a GSSP are generally used throughout our building at Ballyshannon for every student. (ie: preassessments, ability to work ahead, personalized learning paths, independent research projects, completion of projects with multiple modalities, etc.) This means that you may not see a huge difference in the way your child's curriculum and programming are designed from student to student, but instead you should see a difference in the rigor of your child's assignments. If you feel as though your child is not challenged, you should contact your child's teachers and request a meeting to discuss a more rigorous pathway for your child.
