What To Do on Tuesday, September 8--Our First Day of School
- Prior to 8:30 a.m.--Go to “Courses” in Schoology and click into your Term 1, Block 1 class.
- By 8:30 a.m.--Inside this course, find and click the virtual classroom meeting link. Your teacher will allow you into the meeting room at or before 8:30 a.m. Being late to the virtual classroom is just like being late to class in the building and you will be marked tardy.
- Students are expected to report to the virtual room linked in Schoology by the official class start time (see schedule above) for every block, every day.
- Advisory is not optional and should be attended as part of Block 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:15 p.m. Important information will be disseminated throughout the year during this time.
Have a great first day with your teachers and peers! Please tag your first-day photos with #VBDayOne. Please have patience with your peers, teachers, tools and resources. Remember that even when we’re all together in the classrooms, glitches happen on the first day of school, so they will happen in the virtual environment too. If you have any difficulty, please email your teacher about the issue you are having, and they will start the support process. For helpful tips to resolve the most frequent technology problems, please visit the Department of Technology support website.
Announcements & Reminders
Accessing the Building: Access to the building must be made through an appointment. Office hours during the virtual time period are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call the main office at 648-5500 if you need an appointment.
Use Your Chromebook: During "live" (synchronous) instruction, students must use their school-issued Chromebooks. Teachers and students will be able to chat, teachers can send out announcements to students, teachers will have the ability to send out web collections or individual websites so that the tab just opens "automagically" while they are on the school-issued Chromebooks. If you want to use a personal devices for asynchronous lessons, that's fine.
SAT & ACT: Beginning October 3 ACT and SAT testing will resume in Virginia Beach provided there is not a significant change in COVID-19 percent positivity and total cases in our region and the Governor has not imposed additional restrictions. Please check the College Board and ACT websites for specific registration information. Test dates are as follows:

Food Services Update
The USDA has just announced that they will extended our ability to provide meal service at no charge for all families at all VBCPS schools. This will work as it did during the summer, with bagged meals provided Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., with the Friday bag containing meals for Saturday and Sunday. If a different pickup time is needed, please contact the cafeteria manager, Bonnie Gassett, to make other arrangements. To maintain the safety guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control, meals will be provided using a drive by/pickup model. They will be bagged and include both a breakfast and lunch. Children enrolled at the Safe Learning Centers and in the VB Parks and Rec program will eat for free. This service may change when students return to face-to-face instruction, and we will keep you updated.
Attendance Procedures
Attendance matters and can impact student learning. Here's how parents can help:
Encourage your student’s attendance and help them understand the impact it makes for a successful academic year.
Communicate with your student’s Administrator, School Counselor, or Teacher if you notice sudden changes in behavior or have issues that can potentially cause attendance issues.
Check on your student’s attendance periodically. To access your student’s attendance profile, log into Parent Portal or ParentVue Mobile App.
Provide parent verification of absences, by completing the electronic Absence Form to prevent Unverified Absences (UNV).
Please contact the Attendance Office at 648-5530 if you have any questions or email LHSAttendance@vbschools.com
Attendance procedures are detailed here.
Please Log Your Volunteer Hours!
VBCPS values and promotes active engagement of the community in all our schools. The Office of Family and Community Engagement coordinates many volunteer opportunities for community members to interact and contribute to the academic achievement of our students and the overall continuous improvement of VBCPS. Volunteer opportunities may include:
Serving in a PTA/PTO/PTSA
Serving as tutors, mentors or guest speakers
Providing assistance in classrooms, cafeterias, libraries or main offices
Organizing student enrichment and recognition activities
Supporting special events, athletics, school planning councils and advisory boards
Please be sure to log your volunteer hours through the VBCPS Get Connected database. VBCPS uses this information to quantify the value of volunteer service and apply for divisionwide federal grants that benefit our schools and students!
