The Power of Praise

The Peacebuilders' Pledge is a longstanding tradition at CPA. Through the Peacebuilders' Pledge, we recommit to spreading kindness and peace at home, and school, and in our community. As part of the pledge, we say these important words: I will praise people.

Why is praise so important? What makes praise a crucial part of a peaceful community? We know that peace is not just the absence of violence, but the presence of something. Think about this: how do you feel when you are praised? When someone notices your kind gesture, appreciates the quality of your work, or recognizes you have gone above and beyond in some way?

Praise helps people feel seen and valued. Knowing we are valued within our community bonds us to that community and the others around us, leading to a true community of peace. Let's all make it our goal to praise people this week and watch our peaceful community grow stronger!

FREE COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at CPA

Monday, Sep. 20th, 3:30-6pm

471 Magnolia Avenue East

Saint Paul, MN

All Minnesota residents age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The CDC recommends that everyone who can get vaccinated should do so at the first opportunity available to them. This vaccine clinic is free and open to anyone ages 12 and older. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present. Please enter CPA at Door A and wear a mask.

Everyone who received their first dose at CPA's vaccine clinic on August 31 should plan to attend and receive their second dose. Anyone in need of their first dose is also welcome!

Chaperones Needed!

Anyone who is interested in chaperoning field trips this year or volunteering in a classroom must submit the volunteer application by October 1. Visit the CPA website for the application or for more information.

Free National Hispanic Heritage Month Events

Is your family interested in learning more about amazing Hispanic artists and leaders, like Carmen Herrera, Dolores Huerta and CΓ©sar ChΓ‘vez? The Smithsonian is offering several free online events for children and families. Check out their event page to learn more and to register for the events!

CPA is NOT Streaming Athletic Competitions

We wanted to make you aware of a scam that is happening on social media. Groups NOT associated with CPA claim they are streaming our athletic events, and they collect credit card information to exploit fans. Sports are back at CPA, but we are not livestreaming any games or competitions. Please do not give your credit card information to these groups. We hope you can join us in person for our athletic competitions. Thank you!

Programs & Activities

Explore the 2021–2022 Reach for the Stars catalogue with more than 120 high-quality academic enrichment programs, competitions, events, and activities for Minnesota K–12 students! Check out the catalogue online, or see Ms. Maslowski in the counseling office for a paper copy.

Application for Educational Benefits

For the 2021-2022 school year, breakfast and lunch are free for all students. However, it is important that all CPA families complete the application for educational benefits so CPA receives support and resources for all students, and so that individual families have access to community resources. If you haven't submitted an application yet for 2021-2022, please do so online at https://www.schoolcafe.com/spps. Thank you!

Masks Required on Buses

Masks are required for all passengers on school buses. This is a federal mandate. Please make sure students have a mask before getting on the school bus, and wear them the entire ride to school and home. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe!

Daily Health Screening

Due to the ongoing pandemic, we need to be extra careful about spreading any illnesses at school. Parents should do a health screening of their children each morning before school. If students are not feeling well or have symptoms of any illness, please keep them home for the day. If students exhibit any of the symptoms of COVID-19 listed below, they must be tested for COVID-19 before returning to school. COVID-19 symptoms include:

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea or vomiting
