Seclusion and Restraints
Effective this 2017-2018 school year, it is a requirement that public school employees who work with and come in contact with students receive an awareness level training on Michigan’s laws regarding the use of emergency seclusion and restraint. Please note, the law states that seclusion is never allowable with preschool-age students.
There are 2 free awareness level trainings that meet the requirement established by the Michigan Department of Education:
- 30-minutes video you can facilitate at a staff meeting: http://mymassp.com/files/Emergency_Use_of_Seclusion_and_Restraint_Awareness_Training_With_Processing_30mins.mp4
- 14-minute video staff can view independently: http://mymassp.com/files/Emergency_Use_of_Seclusion_and_Restraint_Awareness_Training_Without_Prompts_14mins.mp4

Hello Jyl, Wow, what a wonderful day I had, visiting your classroom! Literally Jyl, I have been an ECS for 3 years and your classroom was one of the best ever! You and Zach had perfect Adult-Child Interaction and I loved listening to you guys. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been in your classroom and we are trying to do this three times this year. I would love to visit again. I am going to beg the folks at High Scope. Have a great week and know that you and Zach are just the greatest!

Skyward
· Mandate from the Payroll Department: Time sheets must be submitted by 6:00 P.M. on Thursday. Late time sheets will be approved the following pay period.
· Enter your time into Skyward daily: when you arrive and depart.
· Submit your payroll on Wednesday.
· If you are not working your scheduled hours, get prior permission, and put a note in the explanation box. (I.E. regular schedule 8-4, 4-5 worked for Cindy. Your payroll will be denied with a explanation which could result in you not receiving a check on Friday). You need to put your time off in your classroom reflection book.
· Skyward Questions: If you have questions about True Time or Time Off Request, please contact Sue first before contacting Angie.
· Time Off ~ Please email Sue with your time off and the sub you are using.
You must follow the schedule given. Any deviation from your schedule must have prior approval, or your time sheet will be denied~~per Washea Jackson
Thoughts from Pat M
Advisory Committee
5 – 6:30 is an Advisory Committee Meeting; this is the opportunity for families to participate in collaborating with staff to discuss policy and plan for the future.
- The Advisory Committee participants signed up this fall, but parents are always welcome
- The topics to discuss are:
1. How we celebrate holidays, birthdays and other important dates at OELC?
2. How we incorporate family culture into our classrooms? Surveys?
- This is the meeting that the staff committee must attend as part of their committee responsibilities
- A light dinner is planned and will end the meeting
Data Committee
6:30 – 7:30 is a Data Committee Meeting; this is an opportunity for families to participate in looking at data about our programs and setting strategic goals for the future.
- The Data Committee participants also signed up this fall, a smaller group is better with this type of meeting
- The topic is to review the data from PQA and COR and to discuss at this meeting is what strategies we can use to increase outcomes for our students
You all do such amazing work!
I want to highlight something from all of the classrooms, if you have a picture or a video about something that worked great, or an idea for materials, send it to me; I can submit it for the S’more Newsletter in January
