Lockdown Drill - Tuesday January 29
- Lockout
- Lockdown
- Evacuate
- Shelter
This month, Jefferson is focusing on our current Lockdown protocol. We are required by policy to practice a Lockdown twice each school year. Some emergency situations at school may involve a danger inside the building. This could include an angry person, an unexpected animal roaming the hallways, or an active threat of another type.
"Locks, Lights, Out of Sight"
In these situations, students and staff follow the Lockdown Standard Response Protocol. During a Lockdown, all staff and students move to a safe location, lock the door, turn out the lights, and remain silent.
A 1 minute, 30 second video is available for teachers to show their students this week. It was created here at Jefferson to show students what their teacher does during a Lockdown (engages the Lock Block to lock the door and turns out the light) and what students do during a Lockdown (get out of sight and remain silent). You may view the video below.
During the drill on Tuesday afternoon, I will be on the intercom providing instructions to students while other adults will check classrooms to ensure that doors are locked, lights are off, and students and staff are out of sight.
Your child may have questions following the video and/or the drill. If something comes up for your family that you don't have an answer to, please feel free to e-mail me. As always, members of the Safety Team will debrief our Lockdown drill at our next staff meeting.
Thank you for supporting us in keeping Jefferson a safe place to learn and grow.

Upcoming School Closure Dates
There will be no school for high school students on January 30. There will be no school for all grades January 31 and February 1. These days were reserved for possible weather make up days. Because we have not had any weather closures, these make up days will not be used and there will be no school.

Dance of the Decades - February 8
Come join us for an evening of dancing, dress up (optional), and fun at the Jefferson Elementary Dance of the Decades on Friday, February 8th from 6:30-8:00pm.
The dance still features MC Mr. Yeh on the music but the theme has been changed from the 50s Sock Hop to a dance featuring music and fun from the 1950s into the 2000s. Different name, same venue, more music and more fun!
Light snacks will be served. Please feel free to bring a snack to share (gluten-free options labeled).
Volunteers are needed to help decorate, set up, assist at snack tables, and clean up.
If you would like to help or for more information please contact Kristy Johnson at 541-990-3044 or email: kristy.johnson09@gmail.com.
Thank you!

Jefferson Jog-A-Thon 2019 - February 12 and 13
Would your student like to see Mrs. Harder in a tutu? Or Mr. Phillips? How about all the teachers in tutus? Our annual Jog-a-thon is coming in just a few short weeks, and we have some new, fun incentives for our classes this year, including tutus, extra recess, and a special lunch with Mrs. Harder!
The Jog-a-thon is the biggest annual fundraiser for our school, but more importantly, one that the students feel a pride in creating. The money raised helps fund a variety of programs that sustain our school community, including band, Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB), the 5th grade musical, and over 16 other clubs. And the students have a blast participating in it!
We do need volunteers to help count laps and cheer on the students. At least ten volunteers are needed for each class. Come for one or two sessions, or more! Sign up is available at: http://signup.com/go/rLAbhfg or contact Meagan Johanson at nutmeagan27@gmail.com. We couldn’t do it without you!
Your Jogathon Team,
Paul Jacobsen
