School's out for summer!
The holidays are fast approaching and promise long, lazy days of sunshine, no school, no homework, no activities to rush around to......bliss!
This should leave Peak School children with plenty of time on their hands to pick up a book, so we have created a summer reading list of all our top picks in case you are looking for ideas to tempt them away from the television or the computer! There are also some interesting statistics below to show the impact on children's vocabulary of reading for 15 minutes every day.
Happy Holidays!

A Plea from the Library
As the children are encouraged to be independent in the library, books can go home without being scanned out and we have no means of telling where they are. Please would you make a huge effort to turn out your cupboards for library books? You are looking for books with a yellow barcode on the front which says Peak School Library and a white sticker on the spine with numbers or letters on it.
Did you know that if every family had just one Library book at home, this would cost us around $72,000 to replace the missing copies?

Summer Reading List
We have put together a summer reading list in case you are looking for ideas for books to take on holiday. Full of suggestions of books that we know the children love (as they are always out of the library) and suggestions of newly published books too. You can find the list by clicking here or visit our Library Planet Peak Page.
Why can't I skip my 20 minutes of reading tonight?
Did you know that if you read just 15 minutes a day, in one year you will have read over 1,000,000 words, for 5 minutes a day that is 282,000 words, for 1 minute a day that is 8,000 words? Imagine how much greater the vocabulary is of a child who reads for 15 minutes, as opposed to 1.
