Meteor vs. Asteroid

Asteroids: Asteroids are generally larger chunks of rock that come from the asteroid belt located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Sometimes their orbits get perturbed or altered and some asteroids end up coming closer to the Sun, and therefore closer to Earth.

Meteoroids: A meteoroid is a piece of interplanetary matter that is smaller than a kilometer and frequently only millimeters in size. Most meteoroids that enter the Earth’s atmosphere are so small that they vaporize completely and never reach the planet’s surface.

Solutions To Stop Asteroids

One way to stop an asteroid could be Nuclear weapons. It would break up the asteroid so it hits earth in multiple pieces instead of one big piece. Another way to stop an asteroid could include Kinetic Impact. Which would mean it would make the asteroid curve in a different direction.

Safety Precautions

Scientists say that they best way to keep most people alive from Killer Asteroids and Comets is early detection because then governments and other people can warn everyone on earth so they know it's coming and to start finding or making a shelter to protect them.

Impact on Earth

The energy released would be about 5,120 megatons, which is 100 times more powerful than the strongest nuclear bomb ever. It would leave behind a crater with a diameter of 3.64 miles and a depth of 1.26 miles.
