Principal's Post- Mr. Schmucker
Dear Families,
Spring is on its way. With the daffodils and crocuses also comes our state testing. Our students in grades 3,4, and 5 will be participating in the state-wide assessments (PSSA) according to the following schedule. Please note that the PSSA tests are now being taken online in classrooms.
PSSA English Language Arts (ELA) Grades 3, 4, 5
April 20, 21 22
PSSA Math Grades 3, 4, and 5
April 27 and 29
*No School on the 28th
PSSA Grade 4 Science
April 30th
May 1st
As a school, we will make every effort to keep these assessments in perspective. We recognize that they are viewed by outsiders as an indication of how well our school is performing overall. We also know that the results from these tests will be used by the state to calculate the individual student PSSA scores, the teacher PVAAS scores and the School Performance Profile score. However, we also recognize that these assessments are one point of data and do not encapsulate our students are learners.
During the testing dates wework to maintain a school day that flows like a typical day. Maintaining this normalcy is important for the students. However, in order to create a large block of interrupted time in the morning, the daily schedules for 1st and 2nd grade will be adjusted. These students may have an adjusted time for specials and lunch/recess.
The PSSA testing can be a time of increased emotions as the students are working hard to demonstrate what they have been learning throughout the year. Please help us to calm emotions and remind your child that he/she has been working hard all year and that this is simply an opportunity to demonstrate what he/she knows and can do related to these certain content areas. Pulling on their strategies for focus, stamina, and self-monitoring skills and attention to detail will be helpful. Also, reinforcing the message of perseverance and going back into the text to re-read the information is important.
Together we share in the ownership, responsibility and celebration of our students’ success.

From Band- Mr. Boyd
Band rehearsals will be starting soon. The rehearsals will begin after the Easter break. I am waiting until all potential snow days are over before putting them on the calendar. When they do come out, please mark the dates and times on your calendar at home. Remember that the first few rehearsals are before school which will require transportation on your part. Carpooling is always an option and has worked well in the past. See if anyone close to you has a child in band and set-up a plan.
The Trumbauersville Spring Concert is Thursday, May 28 @ 7:00 PM, in the Trumbauersville Elementary Café.
Thank You in advance for your cooperation and support !!

Read Across America: March 2nd-March 6th
Read Across America Day is a day celebrated annually on March 2nd. It was created as a way to encourage children across America to read, and to give parents and teachers an opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading. It is a holiday that has been celebrated since 1998 and falls on the same day as children’s book author, Dr. Seuss.
We, along with many elementary schools across the nation, will be celebrating the entire week of Read Across America Day as Read Across America Week. At Trumbauersville we will be celebrating the week with school-wide Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) times, guest readers, daily trivia, dress-up days, and our monthly First Friday celebration. It will surely be a busy and exciting time for us!
Additionally, there are many community events held the week of Read Across America. On Sunday, February 29, the Elmwood Park Zoo is hosting its annual Read Across America event, and author Jerry Spinelli will be on hand to greet guests and sign books! Also on Sunday, February 29, Barnes and Noble, Center Valley will host its celebration. More local events are sure to be added as the date approaches.
We, at Trumbauersville, hope you and your child(ren) enjoy a fabulous week of reading and celebrating Read Across America!

From the Library- Mr. Nagle
The library learning target Use a System to Organize Information helps students to record and organize facts in a way that makes sense to them or simply stated, they learn how to take notes. Note taking can range from categorizing keywords or phrases to paraphrasing and summarizing relevant information that has been extracted from a resource. These “notes” provide students with a point of reference to review and evaluate information as it relates to their research questions. Note taking overlaps with the library learning target Demonstrate Ethical Use of Copyrighted Materials. Students not only cite their resources to give credit to the author, but also never copy sentences directly from the text to avoid plagiarism. On a basic level, student note taking is the borrowing of an author’s facts and information without stealing his actual sentences or writing style. Good notes create information ownership as students will then use those notes to create their own original work to share with others. – Mr. Nagle

CPR (Compassion, Perseverance, Respect) Team
This month we will introduce the theme "A Beautiful Oops - Persevering through Mistakes" during our First Friday assembly. Students will focus on looking at mistakes in a new way. Throughout the month, students will look for opportunities to persevere through challenges and look at mistakes as an opportunity to grow. At home, you may want to try something new as a family and practice working through struggles, to reinforce this message.
In March, students will learn about Peaceful Problem Solving to maintain healthy friendships and problem solve with a friend. They will learn four steps to conflict resolution:
1.) Stop and stay calm
2.) Use an "I" message
3.) Find a solution
4.) Compromise and apologize

Box Tops Dos & Don't
This is correct. It's a bag of 50 Box Tops with a note that states that it's 50 Box Tops.
This is also correct. It's a sheet that has the correct amount of Box Tops, Tops are all still valid and cut nicely.
The below is NOT correct. There are extra Box Tops on the side of the sheet.
This is NOT correct. There are not enough Box Tops to fill the sheet and some of the Box Tops are not cut to be able to see the expiration dates.
