COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Know the Truth - KTT
Know the Truth (KTT) hosted a virtual presentation during Advisory on Tuesday, March 9th for Hybrid and Distance Learning students. Students engaged in conversations around various topics including; what drives substance use among youth, goal setting, and asked the presenters about their personal experiences with substance use.
Know the Truth Prevention Program utilizes evidence-based practices by implementing risk assessments, providing education on the impacts of substance use, and administering survey evaluations. They use a peer-to-peer, interactive approach facilitated by prevention advocates who are close in age to the students. These trained prevention advocates share targeted information about substance use, address common misconceptions of drugs and alcohol, and discuss healthy coping methods and life-skills.
If you want more information about KTT - check out their website. https://www.knowthetruthmn.org/. If you are interested in your student getting more involved with KTT - please contact ALC School Social Worker, MacKenzie Diessner.

Get to Know ALC Staff | Donna Wood, Science Teacher
How long have you worked for FPS?
This is my 3rd year at Fridley, but I've been teaching for 10. I worked in the horticulture industry for 25 years before going back to school to get my teaching license.
Where are you from?
I'm a Minnesota gal; born in St. Paul, grew up in Oakdale.
Education:
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, a Master of Science in Horticulture from the University of Minnesota, and a General Teaching License from the College of St. Scholastica.
What do you love about your job?
Sharing my love of all things science makes me happy. It's a great joy when I witness students' "a-ha!" moments - when everything comes together and finally makes sense. I love a busy classroom, where students are involved in hands-on experimentation and inquiry leads to impromptu question-and-answer sessions. And, most importantly, it's a true pleasure getting to know each student that passes through my classroom.
Anything else we should know about you?
I live in Cottage Grove with my husband, Ron, daughter, Breanna, and our dog, Lester. I enjoy attending concerts and football games with my daughter, traveling with my family, taking walks, reading and cross-stitch. Next on my list of "things I really want to do" is bungee jumping.
