Ayes & Nays
The board adopted several policy updates the administration proposed in April, based upon NEOLA policy service recommendations. A summary of the updates can be found on the website, board of education, April meeting packet.
Automotive Collision Repair Three-bay Prep Deck
Since automotive painting equipment is rather complex and requires connections to the facility’s electrical and natural gas supplies, a detailed review and analysis of the bids was required to ensure all necessary work was included by all bidders on a fair and comparable basis. Some follow-up with bidders was required to understand elements of certain bids in order to ensure they were being evaluated on a comparable basis. Based on the review and analysis of the bids, administration recommended and the board approved a contract for Altra Products at the bid price of $146,290.
Bus Purchases
The board approved a recommendation to purchase 4 new buses to replace older buses in the fleet. The contract was awarded to Holland Bus Company at a total cost of $391,914. Additionally, the board approved the purchase of 4 buses that are coming off of lease for $190,780.
Perpetual Five-year Calendars
This year, the county calendar committee recommended all of the calendars be presented based on the state-approved "early start" waiver granted for 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22. The early start plan moves the school start date to about two weeks prior to Labor Day and the first semester classes end prior to the winter Holiday break. Additionally, spring break was adjusted beginning in 2020-21 to better accommodate standardized testing scheduled in April. Board adopted calendars can be viewed here, Five-year Countywide Common Calendars.
Amendment to the Administrative, Managerial, and Technical Personnel Handbook
Administration proposed the following changes to the handbook. The board took action to approve:
- Granting step increases for 2019-20;
- Increasing by 1.5% the salary schedules for 2019-20;
- Adjusting the base rates (only) of the Managerial, Technical staff schedule to make entry level wages more competitive in this group of positions;
- Incorporating reclassifications/new titles that were authorized by the superintendent during the 2018-19 fiscal year;
- Incorporating new language in the Time Off Benefits section to address rights granted by the Michigan Paid Medical Leave Act.
