January Newsletter
Happy New Year!
We hope you had a wonderful holiday break! We are excited to welcome students back! If you need anything don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher!
Reminders
*Students must bring their fully charged Chromebook and binder every day to school.
*Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather. We will have outdoor recess. If you need assistance getting cold weather gear for your child, please let us know!
*If there is ever a snow day, students will have a Google Meet at 8:30!
* Students have Google Meets on Wednesday the 6th and 20th this month. These meetings will take place at 10:30.
*If you are ever having issues with your child's Chromebook, please let your teacher know. We can get these problems fixed, but need to know about it!
* You can also attend Technology Support hours at JKES when having technology issues! These times are Tuesdays 1-2 and Thursdays 10-11.
Curriculum Corner
These skills are an overview. Some students are working on numbers 0-10, some on numbers 0-30, and others 0-99. The level of difficulty depends on how your child did on their assessments in reading and math.
Reading
Sols: 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7/ 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8
- phonemic awareness (rhyming, syllables, etc.)
- decoding strategies
- sight words
- comprehension: character, setting, and plot
- antonyms and synonyms
- ask and answer questions
Math
Sols: 1.1, 1.2, 1.6, 1.7, 1.14/ 2.1, 2.2, 2.5, 2.6, 2.16
- orally counting
- number recognition and writing numbers
- one more, one less/ 10 more, 10 less
- repeated patterns
- computation (addition and subtraction)
- solving word problems
Classroom Rules
Each classroom has a time out place. We utilize 123 Magic. Students are counted and at 3 they take a 5 minute time out. Students are then welcomed back to the group. Talk to your child about their behavior at school. Ask them if they were counted and why?

At Home
*When your child writes his/her name the first letter should be uppercase (capital) and the other letters should be lowercase. Please help your child practice this correctly at home.
*Reading with your child is always a benefit for learning!
