Portrait of a Graduate
In the month of April, we are focusing on Collaboration!
The hope is for students to:
* use their strengths to make contributions to their group.
* demonstrate active listening.
* recognize the strengths in others and work with them.
* provide constructive feedback to others.
* practice positive communication.
* MOST OF ALL...make good decisions.
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING IN SECOND GRADE?
Please continue to help at home with math facts by reinforcing practice and mastery of addition and subtraction facts for a solid foundation. You can also give your student quick problems to work on to help them!
Writer's Workshop - We finished our open genre study and have started our opinion writing. Through this, students will be working on making reviews (positive and negative) about different topics. They will then choose one to publish.
Reader's Workshop -We are on unit 6, finishing up the fiction portion. In this, we have discussed retelling stories and talked about the central message of the story. We will be moving onto the nonfiction portion where we discuss the main idea and supporting details of a section and of the whole passage of text.
Science- We are still working on our new unit about ecosystems where students learn about what plants need to survive and the best atmosphere for plants to grow.
