ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
For the past two days, all of the adults at CCS have been focused on continuing the great work that happens here on a daily basis while also feeling heartbroken for the community of Parkland, Florida. Our thoughts are with the families involved in these tragic circumstances. At CCS, faculty and staff members have focused on awareness and response - keeping a keen eye and ear out for students who might be anxious, fearful, sad or preoccupied with this week’s events, while also being aware that many of our students have no knowledge of what has happened in Parkland. As a K-8 school, we have students representing a wide spread of developmental stages and our responses are differentiated to meet the needs of the students. In general, our approaches have focused on taking cues from the students - allowing them to express concerns, giving them support and maintaining a sense of normalcy. Modeling calmness, self-care, empathy and understanding in gentle and consistent ways has helped students feel safe and taken care of.
As parents, you may be struggling to make sense of this as well. We would like to offer a few resources to you that might be helpful:

We must not only focus on how we can be part of the healing and the change in our world, but we must remain diligent in our efforts to be safe. We want to assure students, parents, faculty and staff that school safety is a top priority. We continue to enact our safety procedures on a daily basis, drills on a regular basis and to work with district and state officials to make sure that our practices reflect the most current research and guidance. We believe that some of the most essential work that we are doing to promote safety among our students and staff comes from our focus on “Taking Care” - of ourselves, each other and this place.
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
