Note from Admin Team

Greetings Wildcats,

It was another great week at Trailridge. This week we planned to complete our MAP testing. However, the NWEA MAP testing server was down nation wide and we had to adjust our MAP testing schedule. We completed our Math MAP testing this week and we will spend two days next week to complete the reading portion. This week we also had our first volleyball games of the year. Our athletes competed very well against Indian Hills and Indian Woods. Just a reminder that if your student would like to attend they need to join pep club or have an adult with them at the games. Pep club will not travel to away games. Therefore, if your student plans to attend away games, they need to have an adult with them throughout the game.

As we have discussed in previous mailers, this year's theme is Level Up. We are challenging our students to Level Up in all areas. As a building, we have a focused effort on raising the bar academically and behaviorally. Part of that includes ensuring our students are not chronically absent. A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10% of their classes. Absences add up fast and result in missing key instructional time. If your student must be absent, please contact our attendance line and also work with your student's teachers to get their work made up.

Lastly, please reference the important PTA message listed below. We have a Fall Mixer coming up next week. It is a fun event that requires some parental support. There is also a signup listed below for help with our September staff appreciation. Thank you for considering!

Have a great rest of the week!

Sincerely,

Matt, Cara and Ericka

Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominations

It is that time again to nominate teachers for Kansas Teacher of the Year. We have a lot of tremendous teachers in our building. If you have a teacher in mind, please take the time to nominate them. Here is an informational video. Here is the link to the nomination form. The deadline for nominations is September 7, 2023.

How Do I Sign Up to Ride a Bus?

Those students who reside over 2.5 miles away from Trailridge will be allowed to ride the bus for free. If you live less than 2.5 miles away, DS Bus provides bus transportation for $185.00 per semester ($370/year). Contracts for this service may be picked up at any Shawnee Mission school office or accessed on-line from the District website. If you have questions regarding bus service, please call DS Bus at 913-384-1190 or access the district transportation website. After the first month of each semester, all riders must be prepared to show a student identification card with bus sticker daily to the driver.

Wildcat Hour Safety Presentations

Officer Hoch and principal Engler will continue with our presentations during wildcat hour. A mailer was sent home on Thursday, August 24, 2023 with more information. Because some of these topics can feel more sensitive than normal, I wanted to share the presentation with you ahead of time so that you can continue to have these conversations with your students at home. You can find that presentation linked here. Both Officer Hoch and I realize that this may be a sensitive topic for some of our students and we will do our best to deliver the message in a calm and educating way. If you feel like your student may struggle through some of these topics, please let us know and we will work to find a solution.

Below is when we will meet with each team of students. Your student should be able to tell you which team they are on.

  • Team 7b: Tuesday, September 12, 2023 - RESCHEDULED

  • Team 7a: Monday, August 28, 2023

  • Team 8a: Tuesday, September 5, 2023

  • Team 8b: Wednesday, September 6, 2023

September's Staff Appreciation

For the September PTA Staff Appreciation Event, we will be traversing the halls with a popcorn cart and plenty of mix-ins and drinks as an afternoon treat! Thank you for helping us show our appreciation for a staff that has worked hard to get our Wildcats back in school mode!

Snacks can be delivered to the office the week of September 18, but no later than 4 PM on September 21st.

If you sign up to bring a beverage please LABEL it as STAFF APPRECIATION, as it will be placed in a general use fridge (and we would hate for it to be consumed prior to the event).

Thank you for your help in celebrating our TR Staff!

Information on Fentanyl

I also wanted to take the time to thank our PTA for bringing in such an informative guest speaker before Thanksgiving break. The guest speaker spoke about dangers and reality of Fentanyl. If you were unable to attend, I have included some of the information and resources below. I encourage you to look through those and to include your student. This drug is having a major impact nation wide on our youth.

Additional Trailridge Information

ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT!

INFORMATION ABOUT TRUANCY

The administration of Trailridge may begin to request documentation for all absences after the 10th absence in a school year. Absences without a doctor's note or administrative approval may be recorded as unexcused. A student with three consecutive unexcused absences, five unexcused absences in a semester, or seven unexcused absences in a year is considered TRUANT according to Kansas State statues. A truancy report may be filed with the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

Attendance Line: 913 993-1012

If your child is going to miss a class for an appointment or any reason, please make sure you are calling the office to let the attendance clerk know. This is important so that we can excuse the absence.
