Happy Passover!
Tonight, we begin to celebrate Pesach, the festival of our liberation from slavery. The Passover Seder, a festive meal of symbolic food and drink (4 cups!), features Matza, unleavened bread that at once represents the affliction our ancestors endured as well as their rapid departure from physical and spiritual servitude. We do this as though each of us, ourselves, went forth out of Egypt. For a week, we rid ourselves of chametz, leavened items, which bloat and slow us down. In the coming days as we gather with friends, family and community, may we all recognize our personal Egypts and find the the faith to leave behind whatever shackles us on the path to freedom. Chag Sameach! !חג שמח

What's Malkhuyot?
Each year, a major component of my Cantorial Certification coursework at Hebrew Union College is the presentation of 35 minute section of liturgy. This year, I was assigned the Malkhuyot (Kingship) section of the Rosh Hashanah service as it appears in the new Reform Machzor (Holiday Prayerbook), Mishkahn HaNefesh. I had to include a variety of settings and styles, including Chazzanut, Congregational, Choral, Contemporary and Chant. I've just posted the program and the video online. Check it the highlights!
