Relay for Life Event
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event dedicated to saving lives from cancer. For over 35 years, communities across the world have come together to honor and remember loved ones and take action for lifesaving change. Funds raised through Relay For Life directly support breakthrough research, 24/7 support for cancer patients, access to lifesaving screenings, and much more.
The Blue Valley Relay for Life will be March 31st from 5 PM - 5 AM. Participants interested can use this link to register - https://secure.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY23NOR?pg=entry&fr_id=104098. Yearbook Reminders
Does your student have a yearbook reserved? (Check Parent Vue if you are unsure.) Currently, only 70% of the student body has a yearbook purchased for them. This year’s book is 468 pages, the largest ever, and is only $50. (While $50 is a significant sum, production costs per book are much higher; it’s a bargain! Our adviser also works with families to make payments. Reach out to dsglenn@bluevalleyk12.org with your questions.)
Once the book is printed and delivered, there are no extra books or second runs.
Families who have purchased Senior Ads, we have a reminder and an ask:
Reminder- We are finishing up ads over the next week. If you haven’t already received a proof or your child’s ad, look for an email by Feb. 17.
Ask- if you haven’t sent in your student’s message or photos, please make that task a priority. (The staff can’t send a proof if they don’t have the materials.)
Coming Soon: 2023 Summer Programs
We are just a few short months away from summer which means the return of Blue Valley’s Summer Programs! Keep an eye out for more information, including a program catalog, in the coming weeks. Enrollment opens at 8 a.m. March 20.

JOCO Resource Numbers
Numbers you need to know
Last July, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255 or 1-800-273-TALK) transitioned to a three-digit dialing code, 988. The three-digit dialing code routes calls to the Lifeline network and provides a connection to local support and services for those experiencing a mental health crisis. Johnson County Mental Health Center began answering Lifeline calls as a part of the national network in August of 2021.
In its first five months, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline received over 1.7 million calls, texts and chats. Federal government data shows a significant increase in calls, texts and chats from December 2021 to December 2022. To learn more about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, check out our Mental Health Moment—a weekly newsletter that opens dialogue, increases understanding, and removes some of the stigmas surrounding mental health issues where we’ve prepared hot, warm and crisis lines for you to add to your contact list. We all need some help sometimes, and it’s okay to reach out.

Activities and Athletics Message
Blue Valley Families,
We are excited to have your families come to support our high school activities and athletics this school year. It is great to see the entire community at these events. It is imperative that our parent community partner with us as we work to encourage a positive atmosphere for our high school games or events.
Sportsmanship/officials: We want to give our student athletes the opportunity to play as many games as possible and we need officials to make those games happen. With a local and national shortage of officials, we want to make sure officials continue to choose to work Blue Valley events. The number one way we can create a welcoming environment is for spectators, coaches and student athletes to be courteous and respect the official’s decisions.
Tailgating: Tailgating before games has become a tradition for many students and families. We love to see our community gathering together to enjoy food and tailgate games in our parking lots. As a reminder, alcohol and tobacco are not allowed on district property including parking lots.
Thank you for your help in making our district events a great experience for all who attend. We hope to see your family cheering for our Blue Valley teams this school year.
Fostering a Safe Environment
As we move into a new semester please share the following message in your upcoming family newsletters:
Blue Valley Schools is committed to promoting and fostering a safe environment in and around all of our schools. Through the convergence of physical and intellectual security measures, we are continuously working to prevent, mitigate, respond to and recover from a wide range of emergencies. Please check out available ways to report safety concerns.
