Principal Post
Dear Dena'ina Families,
As the third quarter of school comes to an end, we are preparing for spring: longer days, warmer weather and a flurry of activity before summer. There are some important things you'll need to know as parents:
- Report cards will be sent home after spring break
- PEAKS State testing for Grades 3-5 is April 3-7 (more information to come)
- MAP testing grades 2-5, CPAA testing grades PreK-1 and AIMSWeb testing grades K-3 is in April
- Technology plans: Our school will have devices for every child next year and we'll keep you updated on our plans for intentional use of technology to personalize learning
- Boundary Exemptions: If you currently attend our school on a boundary exemption please re-submit a boundary exemption form by April 15th
- Classroom assignments for 2017-2018: We do not accept teacher requests. If you have a specific need for your child that you'd like to discuss, please contact me directly.
- There are many upcoming events like grade level concerts, Field Day, Kindergarten promotion, 5th grade orientation to middle school, etc.
We are also planning a large fundraiser/family event - a fun run called the Dena'ina Dash n' Dine. If you have any experience or interest in helping to plan for this, we need you! Contact me via email if so at andrea.everett@matsuk12.us.
I wish you all a fabulous spring break!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Everett

Frequently Asked Questions
Will our school be a Title I school?
Yes! In late January the district's Federal Programs Department determines which schools will qualify for extra funding through the Federal Title I program. Our school will qualify for these extra funds. Our staff will begin the Title I planning process in April, and parents will be notified of the plans by August. Title I funding helps schools provide family involvement activities, books/materials for instruction, professional development, and sometimes personnel to help students achieve success in school.
Kagan Structure for March: Showdown
Our Kagan Structure this month is Showdown
The captain of the round reads a question. All teammates write the answer, then signal they are finished. The captain calls, "Showdown!" and everyone reveals their answers then discusses any similarities/differences.
