Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
January 6, 2023
Andrea Conner, BHS Principal
Hello Bulldog Families.
It’s been fun watching our students transition back after our winter break and noticing that they were particularly quiet at the beginning of the week! Getting up early and readjusting to a routine can sometimes take awhile. We can say that by today, the energy and noise level was “back to normal”!
Students completed the first week of the third quarter and will have access to their final first semester grades on Monday. January is a great time for students to refocus on their academics as students in grades 9-11 will soon be approaching course selections for the 2023-2024 school year.
Take a few minutes to mark some important dates on your calendars. We have a required CCP meeting on February 6 for parents and their students who plan to take a CCP course next school year. We also have two parent/teacher conferences scheduled: one in February and one in March.
We look forward to seeing all of you at these important events. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
In service to our Bulldogs.

Xavier Taylor

Andy McCabe and Connor Malott
Senior Xavier Taylor Goes Above and Beyond
Xavier Taylor, a senior on the Bulldogs Boys’ Basketball Team, presented team managers Andy McCabe and Connor Malott with gifts for the holiday season. While this may not seem particularly significant to most, it’s truly special to Andy and Connor.
Andy McCabe and Connor Malott are often seen on the team’s bench encouraging the players and supporting the Bulldogs. They are loved by Batavia fans who recognize what these two young men may not: they are teaching young people about the importance of accepting and including others.
Xavier’s thoughtful gifts touched the hearts of the two young men and their families. His selfless act exemplifies what it means to be a Bulldog! Thank you, Xavier, for demonstrating what we believe when we say #EveryBulldogEveryDay.

CCP Information Meeting
College Credit Plus (CCP) is Ohio’s dual enrollment program that provides students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking courses from Ohio colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to enhance students’ career readiness and postsecondary success, while providing a wide variety of options to college-ready students, at no or limited costs to students and families. If you are interested in participating in CCP or are currently participating in CCP, you must attend our annual information session at BHS on Feb. 6th at 6:00 p.m.
- Great Oaks Career Centers
- Great Oaks specializes in career and technical education for both high school students and adults. At four campuses, Great Oaks high school students prepare for careers and college, with over 30 career programs available. On January 13th, all 10th grade students will go for a visit to Live Oaks. If a student is interested in a program that is only offered at Scarlet Oaks, a separate visit day will be set up for any of those students. Any student that plans to attend Live Oaks or Scarlet Oaks in the 23-24 school year needs to have the online application submitted by February 7, 2023 for priority consideration. Additional information about Great Oaks and program options can be found at this link: Great Oaks Career Centers
- How to Change Negative Thinking Patterns
Dave Anderson, PhD, explains how negative thinking patterns affect kids’ lives, what are some of the most common negative thinking patterns, and how parents can help.
