Bear Notes-Wk 8 Oct. 12th - 16th

Serving kids. Growing scholars.

a note from the principal...

Greatness. For some reason the idea of greatness has been occupying my thoughts a lot lately. What exactly does it mean to be great? You are always hearing... everyone is destined for greatness. Is that true? And the thought that has really got me going is how do you maintain or sustain greatness? I guess I can honestly say that last question comes from the fact that we achieved only one star from TEA this past year. Does that mean we are no longer a great school in the eyes of TEA? And although I know that you can't always be on top, I mean look at Rome, Egypt or even the Dallas Cowboys for that matter (sorry Cowboys fans :-) ), it doesn't completely answer all the questions about greatness. In fact it brings up another... can you be great and not be on the top? Well, these are some pretty big questions to get answered over a weekend, even if it happens to be long one. And with everyone having their own opinion about what great is I have conceded that greatness for me is not a state of being but more a state of mind. The quest for greatness has its ups and downs, its hills and valleys and maybe that's because it is ever changing. One thing I know for sure Dr. Martin Luther King was definitely on to something when he said, "Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service.” Have great week serving kids!
