Updated COVID Policies and Procedures
Hello Alward Families,
I’m sure you are aware that the Ottawa County Department of Public Health (OCDPH) issued a new Reconciliation Order for schools this week, which changes several of the policies and procedures we have previously implemented at school. I am guessing many of you have questions so hopefully this is helpful. As changes continue to unfold, we will work hard to keep you informed so that you are able to anticipate the impacts on your family.
If a staff member or student TESTS POSITIVE (PCR or rapid antigen test) for COVID-19:
Required to stay home for 10 days (Explanation = isolate for 5 days and quarantine for 5 days. If asymptomatic or symptoms have significantly improved, return on day 11.)
If someone in the HOUSEHOLD tests POSITIVE:
Fully Vaccinated or had a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 90 days. (A confirmed case is one that has been registered with the MDHHS. There is a link on their website to register positive home tests. Unregistered home tests will not be counted.)
Return to school immediately (if asymptomatic)
Required to wear a well-fitted mask for 15 days (gators are not allowed) (Explanation = the duration of the household case’s isolation period (5 days) plus an additional 10 days)
Not Vaccinated (or not fully vaccinated)
Isolate for 5 days, then quarantine for 5 days (10 days total from the onset of the positive person’s symptoms)
Return to school on day 11 (if asymptomatic)
Required to wear a well-fitted mask (gators are not allowed) on days 11-15
This visual may help explain things further.
A few additional items to keep in mind:
If you have a positive case in your home and your child is home because they are ill and have symptoms on the flowchart, you will need to have a negative PCR test to return to school. (A negative home or rapid antigen test cannot be accepted.)
Isolation from the positive individual within the home is no longer accepted as a way to shorten the quarantine period.
If a person in your child’s classroom tests positive, you will be notified by letter. Schools no longer contact trace for specific cases.
There are no more mask exemptions for students under this new order. If a student is unable or unwilling to wear a mask, they will have to stay home the entire period of isolation and quarantine.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this changing landscape.
Regards,
Mrs. McClure
P.E. News
Here's what's happening in PE!
