Tiger Talk

Our Penguin Patch Holiday Shop is Open!
Our fabulous PTO is once again providing our Tigers with an opportunity to do their holiday shopping, here in the building, during their school days December 6 through December 8. What a fun way to help Tigers learn about budgeting, arithmetic, and decision-making while they have so much fun that they don't even realize that it's a great learning experience!
The shop opens at 7:20 and closes at 2:30 each day. The WCHE PTO Penguin Patch Holiday Shop has great prices that range from only 25 Cents up to $16, and our PTO accepts payment by cash, check or VenMo to the WCHE PTO.
WCHE Counselor's Corner
Hello WCHE parents!
Truly, the most enjoyable part of my job is providing guidance to our students. At the end of November, I will have visited every class, Kinder through 5th Grade, three times, and it has been an absolute joy interacting with them.
Our Kinder, 1st, and 2nd Grade lessons have focused on responsible behavior and interpersonal and communication skills and will continue to do so in the coming months.
Our 3rd through 5th Grade lessons have focused on decision-making and responsible behavior, and will shift to conflict resolution in December and January. During these upcoming lessons, we will focus on distinguishing between different types of peer conflict, strategies for how to approach and resolve peer conflict on one’s own, and when to seek out the assistance of an adult in resolving peer conflict.
It is our hope that through such instruction we can better equip our students with the tools to promote positive peer interactions, both at school and beyond, for years to come.
It has been my greatest honor working with your children, and I look forward to doing so as we move forward in the year.
Sincerely,
Dustin Boren, WCHE Counselor
West Cypress Receives Grant from Lettuce Grow, Thanks to Mrs. April Stiles
Mrs. April Stiles, pictured above with her daughter (3rd Grade Tiger) Elle, is one of Lettuce Grow's top 1% growers. Thanks to her being such an active part of the Lettuce Grow growing community, she was honored with a free Farmstand that could be donated to a school, nonprofit, or community organization of her choice.
Fortunately for West Cypress Hills, Mrs. Stiles selected us to receive the grant for a free Farmstand and 24 seedlings. Thanks to Mrs. Stiles and Lettuce Grow, Tigers can watch our plants grow, watch the transformation from seedlings to large plants, learn about plants and plant care, and, later on, enjoy the fresh produce.
Lettuce Grow's mission is to help us learn to grow fresh, clean, unprocessed foods quickly and easily so that the food not only benefits our homes but also our global environment. The mission of Lettuce Grow "is to empower consumers to lead the transition to a sustainable food system."
Thank you, Lettuce Grow, Elle and Mrs. Stiles, for making our indoor Farmstand possible.
