2nd Grade Bengal Bulletin
Week of 10/30 - 11/3
Goodbye October! Hello November!
Homework always comes home on Fridays and will be due by the following Friday. Please read your child's planner for more information. In 2nd grade, homework is given a week to complete to honor time with families, as well as the time for busy after school activities. But, it is also important for the students to be responsible in completing it and get into a routine of knowing when their homework is due. Please see your child's teacher with any questions.
Also, your child will be reading the High Frequency Words to their teacher sometime this week. Please watch your child's planner for more details!
In grammar, we are reviewing our PROPER nouns, which are specific names of people, places, and things. We will be having a checkup over these this week.
In word study, we will be having a checkup over your child's 2 most recent sorts. These word sorts are geared towards your child's current spelling level, and should be reviewed at home while we do activities with them at school. Each week (except review week like this one!), your child will receive a word sort to take home. Ask your child what a blind sort or a speed sort is, and have them do one for you. The more automatic these patterns become, the better speller your child will become.
In math, we will wrap up our unit on addition and subtraction to 199 with a unit test on Tuesday, October 31st. We will then begin our new unit on place value to 999. The students will continue to write numbers in various forms such as expanded, word, and pictures. They will also continue to practice 100 more/less and 10 more/less. See below for different Subtraction Problem Strategies! You may also click HERE to access videos on how these strategies are used.
This week, we will begin our unit of forces, motion, and energy in science. This week , we will begin by talking about forces.
