25 Years of Growing Together in Faith & Knowledge
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
Happy New Year and Feast of Mary, Mother of God!
I hope everyone had a happy and holy Christmas last week! We are looking forward to beginning a successful 2022 year at SFCS on Monday!
With the beginning of the 2022 school year there are a few changes to our Diocesan and school's COVID procedures and protocols.
- New CDC Isolation and Quarantine Guidelines: The CDC issued new and updated guidance for isolation and quarantine periods. The specifics are outlined below. CDC Updates and Shortens Recommended Isolation and Quarantine Period for General Population/CDC Online Newsroom/ CDC
- Face Masks: Students and faculty will once again be temporarily required to wear face masks while in the building. The decision is based upon the revised guidelines issued by the Diocese earlier in the school year. (Letter of Policy Included Below) We have exceeded our school's benchmark number of the county's 7-day average number of cases for over the past 3 days. Once we have 3 consecutive days below this benchmark then we will be able to have masks optional once again. The data issued by SCDHEC will be monitored daily.
- Virtual Instruction: Teachers will no longer be required to stream instruction live through Zoom while also teaching simultaneously in the classroom. Students that are under the new 5 day mandatory quarantine or isolation period may follow classroom lessons and activities still through their Class Notebook pages. If an entire class must quarantine or isolate then virtual instruction via Zoom will occur.
I definitely did not want my first communication of the new year to be about COVID-19. I am sure I am not alone. Hopefully this current surge in cases in our area will end quickly!
Catholic Schools Week (CSW) is just right around the corner! One way we will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week opening Mass on Sunday, January 30th will be for families to purchase yard signs and displaying them in celebration. This year with CSW Mass is a special one. The Bishop will be our celebrant since this is our 25th Anniversary. We hope all our families will consider purchasing these yard signs and the great thing is that they are designed to be able to be used every School Family Mass Sunday for the year!!! Please see the order form to be completed and returned with payment. You may also order one by calling the school office with a credit card.
We are looking forward to having the students back on Monday! I hope everyone has a great New Years Day and Feast of Mary, Mother of God!!!
Sincerely in Christ,
Brian Pope

Coach's Corner - Happy New Year!!!
Saturday basketball is BACK!! The Wolf Den (gym) may have been quiet over the past couple of weeks, but SFCS Basketball season is in full swing beginning on Monday. All (4) school teams will be in action this week while the popular SFCS Basketball Developmental program for elementary-aged kids begins on Saturday. The coaching staff is looking forward to working with tomorrow’s “future hoops legends” over the next (8) Saturday mornings! Be on the lookout for some pics in the coming weeks!
Searching for Boys’ and Girls’ Head Soccer Coaches for the spring…the soccer season is only March and April. Without a field here on campus, practices are on Chaplin Park. It’s a lot of fun getting back outside with the kids after the cold winter months! Please email me at mweaver@sfcshhi.com if you are interested.

Don’t forget to sign up for spring session at Moss Creek Equestrian Center. We will be hosting two schools for the spring session: St. Francis and Heritage Academy. Our program’s goal is to share the love of horses, learn how to care for the animal as well as riding. At the end of the session we will host a friendly interscholastic competition. The co-ed team is open to students from each school 1st through 8th grade. The riding team will be an eight-week course meeting once a week (Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday afternoons). At the end of the eight weeks, we will have a horse show for all the participants to compete as individuals and as a school.
The classes will be held starting:
February 15th Tuesday 4:30pm - Heritage Academy Beginners
February 18th Friday 3:30pm - St. Francis and Heritage Academy Intermediate / Advanced Combined
February 18th Friday 4:30pm - St. Francis Beginners
February 20th Sunday 3:30pm- St. Francis Beginners
February 20th Sunday 4:30pm - Heritage Academy Beginners
No experience necessary! We supply helmets, and we ask that all riders wear shoes with a heel (boots preferred) and long pants. This will be a fun experience for all!

Virtue of the Week - Circumspection
Circumspection: Careful consideration of circumstances and consequences.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
My actions affect not just myself but others. Please give me the
wisdom to think before acting. Please give me the gift of counsel,
that I may act in the best way at each moment of the day.
Amen.
