Reflecting on April Thus Far
It has been such a busy April so far! As of today all of our students (with the exception of absent students) have completed the ELA MCAS testing. They were so impressive with all of the perseverance exhibited! We are very proud of our students' hard work to show what they know. Math MCAS will begin after April break.
What a celebration last Thursday's Unified Arts Night was! Your participation and engagement in all of the activities with your children was tremendous. Thank you so much for coming!
This week on Monday evening we hosted a parent evening all about children's current exhibited behaviors in relation to their developmental levels and how we can all work together to support healthy student growth and behavior. This evening featured guest speakers from Children's Cove, A Safe Place, Nantucket Public Schools, and the Nantucket Police Department. Those of us in attendance learned so much about the impact of children's time online not only in school, but out of school - particularly when unsupervised. The information was so helpful to parents with ways to support the conversations with children and the monitoring of social media and other online activity outside of school. We also shared how NPS monitors students' online activity on school devices in an effort to protect them and their wellbeing. We are working on a video recording of the evening to share with those of you who couldn't make it.
Finally, thank you for getting your placement consideration letters in to me. The deadline to receive these is Friday, April 15th. They are very helpful and supportive of our work to create balanced classrooms.
We wish you a wonderful spring break with your children!

2022-2023 School Year Planning
April is around the corner and thus, so are student placement decisions for next school year. If you have a third or fourth grader and want to share pertinent information with us about classroom placement, please draft your email/letter and send to me by Friday, April 15th. The information that we find most helpful is about peer relationships, your child's learning style and type of classroom setting that has worked in the past. You may NOT request a classroom teacher.
Please know that our teachers work very hard on determining the very best placement for students and your information is included in that determination. Also know that parent letters are NOT required. They are simply helpful when you believe there is important information to share. Important: We do not consider last year's letter (if you sent one) as children grow and change.
If you have a second grader, please share your letter with Kim Kubisch as the second grade team creates the classes for grade 3.
Thank you!
Evemarie
Health Office News
Hello NIS Families
All of the mandated health screenings for NIS are done except for scoliosis screening. If you have a 5th grader please view this link for information regarding the screening. Parent Info on 5th Grade Scoliosis screening
Screenings will start after April Break.
If your student did not pass any of the screenings, a referral letter was mailed home asking you to follow up with a doctor. Please let me know the results of that visit.
Our number of covid cases is very low, but we have had numerous flu cases last week. Please remember that if your student is feeling sick, please keep them home. Thanks.
Enjoy the Spring and stay healthy!
