Family - Teacher Conferences

Our Family - Teacher conferences will take place on October 11, 2022 from 2:30 - 6:30 PM. In some cases, teachers have already begun to initiate contact with families if they think a meeting would be helpful. On Monday, a link will be sent home through Blackboard that will allow you to schedule an appointment with a teacher. I strongly encourage your student to attend this meeting as well. We do have a few faculty members who are unable to attend this evening, and they will be in touch with you directly to arrange another time. This brings me to my last point, you should never hesitate to reach out to a teacher at any time if you have concerns about your student. The best plans are made in the moment, and although we set this night aside, this doesn't preclude a meeting outside this evening.

Grade 9: We will be holding an in-school field trip for Grade 9 students that includes a presentation by Mr. Patrick Cogan. Mr. Cogan is a Lynn native, who outside of his professional career trains and competes in marathons and triathlons. He speaks to audiences, primarily young people, about pushing oneself and overcoming adversity. Mr. Cogan has Friedreich's Ataxia, a neuromuscular disease that effects mobility and use of his legs, and speaks directly to his story as he lives a meaningful life. We will be sharing the full schedule with students prior to the event.

Grade 10 and 11: All grade 10 and 11 students will be taking the PSATs. There is no registration necessary for these exams and students may be dismissed when the exams period is done.

Grade 12: Seniors are encouraged to use this day to plan for post-secondary opportunities. This could include, visiting schools, exploring technical and career options, and/or a job shadow. Students can use this day to complete their community service hours by spending the day in service. Any senior who wishes for a quiet place to work on post-secondary planning with some access to teachers, will spend the day in the library. There are no classes for seniors held on this day. We do hope to offer a few other options throughout the day, so stay tuned.

We are making a concerted effort to ensure the Morning Update is shown on Fridays during M-block but if you missed it, you still have a chance to view the episode.

School Council

If you are interested in participating in our MRHS School Council, please submit this form as the first step in expressing your interest by Friday, October 7, 2022. The goal is to have three community members serve for a 1-year term. The meetings will last 1-hour and take place bi-monthly on the third Thursday of each month from 3-4 PM at the high school. We will spend our time together reflecting on our school improvement plan, handbook, and budget discussions later in the school year.

Sights and Sounds of Learning

This week I was able to spend a few minutes in Mr. Parianos' Comprehensive Health class where students were learning how to purify water as part of the disease and injury prevention unit. Students were filtering collected "pond" water to potable water. Next year, Mr. Parianos would like to expand the activity to include microscopy and organism assessment. The best part of learning is building connections. Mr. Parianos is a new Wellness teacher this year, and also earned his EMT certification over the summer. We are happy he is here!
