The battle was between Senussi and Moroccan rebels. They were siding with Ottoman empire against, Britian and Italy. General Sir Alan Cunningham, he was the brother of Admiral Cunningham.General Sir Bernard L. Montgomery, succeeded Gott as commander of the Eighth Army.

The battle was successful, but then two days later no invasions were launched. it was to play a key role in the overall success of the allies.

Roosevelt wanted to invade Morocco ad Algeria, would give the army some experience without requiring a lot of troops.
