Glenealy Library News
Less than 2 weeks until ............. Book Week !
All about Book Week...
- Sarah Brennan. Sarah will spend all day Monday with us and see every class in the school. The PTA are generously sponsoring her visit.
- Theadora Whittington, author of several children's picture books
- Kelly Yang, children's author and SCMP journalist
- Tony Banham, historian and author
- Paul McGuire, journalist and author
- Mio Debnan, author of the "Go Kids" travel guides
- Anjali Mittal, author of several adventure stories for children
- Martha Keswick, author of the well-known "Max and Mei" and "Pangu" series will visit us on Monday, April 7
Each class will have the chance to visit with at least two of these authors over the week.
Book Week Character Dress-Up is Thursday, April 3
Children should come to school dressed as a book character. We will have a costume parade in the morning after drop off, at 8:45 in the downstairs area. Parents are invited stay to see their class on parade!
Please don't feel you need to spend a lot of money on a store-bought costume - simple, home-made costumes are best!
Bookazine Book Fair
Bookazine will set up a small 'shop' in the Library on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during Book Week. Children may bring some money to school to purchase a new book to take home. We recommend about $100 per child - books will be priced from as low as $20. Teachers and library staff will be there to assist with student choice.
Bookazine will also set up a table downstairs on the playground on Thursday morning of the parade.
Bookazine has generously offered to give the Library 15% of the total proceeds as in-store credit - so when your child buys a book, you are helping to purchase new books for the library! We thank you for your support.
Parents are very welcome to stop by the Bookazine 'shop' with your child before or after school, or to meet your child at lunchtime to look at the books together!
Book Week Fun Competitions
1."Guess The Teacher Reading" competition - children need to guess which teacher is hiding behind the book.
2. "Guess the Picture Book" competition - children see a portion of the cover and guess the title of the book.
3. "Catch Me Reading" photo competition - details below.
All entry forms are available from the Library and correct entries will go into a hat and be drawn for prizes at Friday's Assembly.
All good fun!
'Catch Me Reading' Photo Competition!
Ask a family member to take a photo of you reading – somewhere, anywhere! You can get ‘caught’ reading in the bath, at the dinner table, brushing your teeth, walking the dog, beside the pool, at the beach, on the playground, at a restaurant etc – be creative!
Photos should be emailed directly to Mrs. Oliver in the library – firstname.lastname@example.org.
All entries in by Monday, March 31st please.
Book Swap - led by the Glenealy Green Team
If your child has one or two children's books at home that are gently used and in good condition but no longer needed, please ask your child to bring the book to school on the first day of Book Week - Monday, 31 March.
Children will be able to swap the book with another to take home! All these second-hand books will be housed in the library and children will come on Thursday or Friday to exchange their books for others. Mrs. Sexton and The Green Team will be there to help!
The book swap will run on Thursday, April 3rd and Friday, April 4th.
Please note: this is not compulsory, but is an optional activity.
PTA Coffee Morning during Book Week
There will also be a book sale by Bookazine on the playground at the same time as the parade, so please support our library by buying a book or magazine for home (the library will receive 15% in store credit from each purchase to buy new books for the library) !
We hope to see all parents at the Book Week parade on Thursday morning - April 3!
