Science 8 Newsletter
Hicksville Middle School
Welcome to Room 237!
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the busy holiday season! In this email you will find major topics of study and assignments for the upcoming weeks. I have listed a date to be assigned and/or due date for each, but please note these may change due to school events or need for further review.
Grades for this week?
Science 8 students will be earning grades on the following assignments for the week:
- SchoolNet Homework #1: On Monday (12/14) students were assigned a 5 question homework assignment on SchoolNet (found by signing in to PowerSchool). This assignment will be checked at 8:00AM on Tuesday (12/15) and graded for notebook points.
- SchoolNet Homework #2: On Tuesday (12/15) students will be assigned a 5 question homework assignment on SchoolNet (found by signing in to PowerSchool). This assignment will be checked at 8:00AM on Wednesday (12/16) and graded for notebook points.
- Topographic Map Mountain Lab: On Tuesday (12/15), students will use Play-Doh to create a mountain from which they will develop a matching topographic map. This lab will be checked for completion on Friday (12/18) and graded for project points over the holiday break.
- Earth's Surface Unit Test Review Guide: On Wednesday (12/16), students will receive a test review guide to prepare for Friday's test. This review guide will be checked on Friday (12/18) for a homework grade.
- Earth's Surface Unit Test: Students will complete their second unit test for Quarter 2 on Friday (12/18). To prepare for this test, students should use the information found behind Tab 4 in their Science 8 Notebook to complete the review guide.
Test Review Session: A second test review session will be held on Thursday (12/17) after school from 3:10 - 3:40PM. I would highly recommend any student who struggles with quizzes/tests to attend this session.
What have we been up to?
Glacier Modeling: Students used Play-Doh and a mini glacier (ice cube with rocks, sand, and dirt) to model the impact of a glacier on a landscape. As part of this exploration, we discovered local glacial lakes and scarring on Kelley's Island!
