Mrs. Foulk's News
9/12/14
This Week:
This week we finished our first published piece of writing and wrapped up our author study. We also began discussing close reading and began taking notes on how authors write informational texts.
We practiced what it looks like to be an "active listener" and learned about how our brains work. Ask your students what a neuron is. You may have to remind them it is in their brain :).
Remember that students need to have a permission slip turned in to participate in the Walk-A-Thon next week. Please email me or send me a note if you would like a new permission slip sent home.
Cursive:
We began learning some letters in cursive. The letters we have learned so far are: lowercase e, i, l, t and u. I will continue to let you know as we introduce more letters so you can ask about them at home.
Eve Bunting
The students previewed and explored different Eve Bunting books. She has several themes and ideas that show up throughout her work. Because she came to the United States from Ireland, immigration is a theme in several of her books. She also uses the topics of different cultures and holidays in her writing. The students discussed how she decides on her ideas based on what they know about her as a person.
